Hello Parents,

 

This is Tom Childers contacting you from Antioch Elementary. School has successfully opened and everyone seems to be adjusting well to the routines. My first priority is to keep all students and staff safe. My second priority is to keep our school open for face to face learning. UCPS is not offering virtual learning this year except in the event of an entire class exclusion.

 

School begins at 7:30am. Students can be dropped off between 7:00am and 7:30am. Please follow staff directions in the car rider line. Parents are welcome to park and walk their child to the front door. Parents are not permitted to walk students to class due to COVID precautions.  Kindergarten students may be dropped off between 7:00am - 7:30am OR parents may walk Kindergarten students into the gym at 7:45am. Parents are reminded to enter the gym from the bus lot. This option is ONLY for Kindergarten students and will end on Friday, September 3rd. Please carefully read the information below regarding dismissal.

 

Afternoon Car Riders

Our school has a large volume of traffic and we have created a very specific dismissal schedule/routine. Please assist our staff to create a safe and orderly dismissal process by following these procedures:

  1. Parents should NOT exit the car to assist your child in the car rider line. Please park and escort your child across traffic lanes if your child requires assistance.
  2. Have your child ready to exit the vehicle when directed. This includes having the backpack and lunch nearby for easy access.
  3. Parents of 4th & 5th Grade students should arrive no earlier than 2:10pm for afternoon pickup on the bus lot.

 

Antioch PTO

Click this link to read the PTO Newsletter. The Antioch Elementary PTO provides a tremendous level of support for our school. Each year the fundraising efforts of this organization provides our school with items to support instruction and student well-being. Here is a partial list of support they have provided in the past:

  • SMART Boards - 55" Interactive Computer Display Boards
  • Teacher Grants - Teachers can use for purchase of classroom supplies
  • iPads for use in younger grades
  • Soccer Goals for the playgrounds
  • Gaga ball pit
  • Water bottle filling stations
  • Staff appreciations lunches

 

COVID Information

Quarantine is required for an individual who has been a close contact (within six feet for at least 15 minutes cumulatively over a 24-hour period) of someone who is determined positive with COVID-19 with the following three exceptions:

  • Individuals who are fully vaccinated and do not have symptoms do not need to quarantine after a close contact (it is recommended to get tested 3-5 days after exposure and to wear a face covering around others until receiving a negative test result).
  • People who have tested positive for COVID-19 within the past 3 months and recovered and do not have symptoms do not need to quarantine.
  • Students who are not fully vaccinated after a close contact in a classroom or other school setting if face coverings were being worn consistently by both the person with COVID-19 and the potentially exposed person do not need to quarantine. This applies to exposures in classrooms, other in-school settings, and school transportation. This exception does not apply to teachers, staff or other adults in the indoor classroom setting.

 

COVID Support Plan: UCPS and Antioch Elementary will offer a comprehensive support plan to assist students if they are quarantined from school. The plan includes a three tiered approach.

  • Tier 1 - Your child's teacher of record or instructional assistant will provide assignments and resources for your child while quarantined. Virtual Instruction ("live" or "on-demand") will only be provided in the event that the entire class is excluded from school.
  • Tier 2 - Antioch Elementary will offer tutoring support from 3pm - 5pm on school days. This support can be accessed by clicking the Covid Support link on the school website calendar. This resource is limited ONLY to students who are quarantined from school. Our staff will answer questions and explain concepts. K-2 and 3-5 have separate links.
  • Tier 3 - UCPS will provide district tutors that can be utilized per parent request. This resource is currently not active. I will share information once the service is available.

 

Chromebook & COPPA Forms    All UCPS students will use technology as a resource to enhance the curriculum. Parents must complete the form below prior to your child accessing the internet at school or prior to your child receiving a chromebook. Only students in grades 3-5 will be issued a chromebook as part of the 1:1 initiative.

School Dismissal Manager

Our school plans to utilize the SDM platform again this year. The company/school is experiencing some technical issues and I notify you when we are ready to begin using this tool. Please send written communication to your child's teacher regarding appointments and transportation changes until SDM is fully functioning. Please remember that teachers may not check their email during the school day as they are teaching. I caution you not to send emails to the teachers regarding same day transportation changes, as these may not be read. You may call the front office to communicate an emergency transportation change.

 

Parents who are checking out students for early dismissal must do so by 1:15pm. It may be extremely difficult to dismiss your child after that time due to classroom dismissal procedures.

 

Please watch for my weekly email to families on Sunday Evenings at 5:00pm. Parents may use this form ONLY if you need to update Powerschool contact information. This will ensure that you receive weekly emails from me and other communication sent from the school.

  • Your phone number

 

This information will allow me to respond to your question or concern more quickly. Parents may access all archived messages on the school website. Our school phone number is 704 296-3005. I strongly encourage you to listen to your voice message before returning a missed call from the school. Antioch Elementary has nearly a hundred staff members and it is sometimes very difficult for our office staff to determined who called you. Please note that our school receives many phone calls each day. Please be patient and you may want to also email your concern to our Receptionist, Mrs. Young (rhonda.young@ucps.k12.nc.us) to ensure that we respond in a timely manner.
