Hello Parents,

 

This is Tom Childers contacting you from Antioch Elementary. We are nineteen school days away from the end of the first grading period. Your child's teacher will soon begin scheduling virtual parent-teacher conferences in preparation of the release of the first report card. 

 

The Antioch Elementary PTO continues with our major fundraiser for the year - Gatorthon. Our school has raised $21,000 and we still have two weeks to meet our goal of $30,000. The PTO will host Spirit Night at Waverly Chick-fil-a on Thursday from 3pm - 8pm.

 

Sudden Dismissal Google Form: Our school could experience a sudden dismissal due to inclement weather. We ask ALL parents to complete this form ASAP.  Here are the links:

Due to Covid Protocols we ask for your cooperation to make note of the following:

  • Parents will not be permitted to walk students to class or have lunch with their child.
  • UCPS is permitting Field Trips at this time. Antioch will only participate in on campus trips for the first semester and will reevaluate off campus trips for the second semester.
  • All parent-teacher meetings, 504, and IEP meetings will be conducted virtually again this year.
  • Our school will not accept items that students forgot at home after the 7:30am bell unless the item is critical (medicine, prescription eye glasses or lunch for students  who have dietary restrictions).
  • Our school will continue to utilize the doorbell camera to communicate with visitors.

COVID Information

Quarantine is required for an individual who has been a close contact (within six feet for at least 15 minutes cumulatively over a 24-hour period) of someone who is determined positive with COVID-19 with the following three exceptions:

  • Individuals who are fully vaccinated and do not have symptoms do not need to quarantine after a close contact (it is recommended to get tested 3-5 days after exposure and to wear a face covering around others until receiving a negative test result).
  • People who have tested positive for COVID-19 within the past 3 months and recovered and do not have symptoms do not need to quarantine.
  • Students who are not fully vaccinated after a close contact in a classroom or other school setting if face coverings were being worn consistently by both the person with COVID-19 and the potentially exposed person do not need to quarantine. This applies to exposures in classrooms, other in-school settings, and school transportation. This exception does not apply to teachers, staff or other adults in the indoor classroom setting. The Union County Health Department is now managing contacting individuals who are deemed close contacts.

 

COVID Support Plan UCPS and Antioch Elementary will offer a comprehensive support plan to assist students if they are quarantined from school. The plan includes a three tiered approach.

  • Tier 1 - Your child's teacher of record or instructional assistant will provide assignments and resources for your child while quarantined. Virtual Instruction ("live" or "on-demand") will only be provided in the event that the entire class is excluded from school.
  • Tier 2 - Antioch Elementary will offer tutoring support from 3pm - 5pm on school days. This support can be accessed by clicking the Covid Support link on the school website calendar. This resource is limited ONLY to students who are quarantined from school. Our staff will answer questions and explain concepts. K-2 and 3-5 have separate links.
  • Tier 3 - UCPS will provide district tutors that can be utilized per parent request. This resource is currently not active. I will share information once the service is available.

 

IXL This online learning platform provides your child with opportunities to practice Reading and Math skills. Students may practice previously learned information or challenge themselves with above grade level concepts. Your child should have a username and a password to access this great resource. Why does UCPS have Early Release Days?

UCPS schedules early release days each year to provide time for teachers to participate in professional development. The next Early Release day is October 13th and students will be dismissed at 11:00am.

 

Parents who are checking out students for early dismissal must do so by 1:15pm. It may be extremely difficult to dismiss your child after that time due to classroom dismissal procedures.

 

Please watch for my weekly email to families on Sunday Evenings at 5:00pm. Parents may use this form ONLY if you need to update Powerschool contact information. This will ensure that you receive weekly emails from me and other communication sent from the school.

 

 Please include the following information when emailing me with a question or concern.

  • Child's Name
  • Teacher Name
  • Grade and
  • Your phone number

 

This information will allow me to respond to your question or concern more quickly. Parents may access all archived messages on the school website. Our school phone number is 704 296-3005. I strongly encourage you to listen to your voice message before returning a missed call from the school. Antioch Elementary has nearly a hundred staff members and it is sometimes very difficult for our office staff to determined who called you. Please note that our school receives many phone calls each day. Please be patient and you may want to also email your concern to our Receptionist, Mrs. Young (rhonda.young@ucps.k12.nc.us) to ensure that we respond in a timely manner.
