Message from Mr. Childers

October 24, 2021

Hello Parents,

This is Tom Childers contacting you from Antioch Elementary. Monday is a Teacher Workday and students do not attend school. Teachers will continue to hold parent conferences throughout the week. Parents are welcome to contact me with concerns once you have addressed those with the teacher. On Tuesday, students in grades third, fourth and fifth will participate in the NC Check In Reading Assessment. Students will receive report cards on Friday. I will make good on my promise to Kiss A Pig due to the tremendous success with the PTO Gatorthon Fundraiser. This will take place on Friday at 8:45am and will be streamed live to classroom. Here is the link if you would like to watch.

The Antioch Elementary School Improvement Team held their monthly meeting. Parents may review the meeting minutes by clicking this link. Parents may click here to view the Antioch Elementary School Improve Plan.

The team reviewed survey results from parents regarding parent volunteers. Survey responses are as follows:

I feel parent volunteers should be permitted in the building  to perform tasks that has no or limited contact with students. - 76% Agreed

I feel parent volunteers should be permitted in the building  to perform tasks that has no or limited contact AND direct contact with students. - 51% Agreed

I have made the decision to invite parents to volunteer for our copy center based on your responses and staff requests for this service. You may click this link to volunteer and check remaining needs. All other protocols will remain unchanged at this time.

Due to Covid Protocols we ask for your cooperation to make note of the following:

  • Parents will not be permitted to walk students to class or have lunch with their child.
  • UCPS is permitting Field Trips at this time. Antioch will only participate in on campus trips for the first semester and we are currently scheduling off campus trips for the second semester. Off campus trips are subject to cancellation based on safety concerns.
  • All parent-teacher meetings, 504, and IEP meetings will be conducted virtually again this year.
  • Our school will not accept items that students forgot at home after the 7:30am bell unless the item is critical (medicine, prescription eye glasses or lunch for students  who have dietary restrictions).
  • Our school will provide a new water bottle for any student who forgets their bottle at home.
  • Our school will provide a face covering for any student who needs it. Please do not attempt to drop these off at school after the 7:30am bell.
  • Our school will continue to utilize the doorbell camera to communicate with visitors.

COVID Support Plan UCPS and Antioch Elementary will offer a comprehensive support plan to assist students if they are quarantined from school. The plan includes a tiered approach.

  • Tier 1 - Your child's teacher of record or instructional assistant will provide assignments and resources for your child while quarantined. Virtual Instruction ("live" or "on-demand") will only be provided in the event that the entire class is excluded from school.
  • Tier 2 - Antioch Elementary will offer tutoring support from 3pm - 5pm on school days. This support can be accessed by clicking the COVID Support link on the school website calendar. This resource is limited ONLY to students who are quarantined from school. Our staff will answer questions and explain concepts. K-2 and 3-5 have separate links.
