Message from Mr. Childers

October 16, 2022

Hello Parents,

This is Tom Childers contacting you from Antioch Elementary. On Wednesday, October 19th, our school will hold fall pictures. The annual Health Screening will take place on Friday. Parents can opt out of getting their child screened for hearing.  Please send a note to your child's teacher if you wish to opt out of the hearing screening. All parents are invited to have a conference with your child's teacher. Please contact the teacher to schedule if you have not already done so.

Socktober is sponsored by the Antioch Ambassador Club October 24 through October 28. We are asking each student to bring in a brand new pair of socks to donate to a local homeless shelter. Collection bins will be in the front lobby of the school. Students can wear crazy socks on October 28 to celebrate!

The Antioch Elementary School Improvement Team will met last Thursday. Here is the meeting minutes.

Can you ask if they are going to be teaching vocabulary? My older kids used Wordly Wise for years and it was a huge help to expand their vocabulary and haven't seen any vocabulary instruction at all since she’s been at Antioch. Thank you.

Our new reading adoption (CKLA) is chocked full of opportunities for vocabulary development. This is integrated into the grade level Literacy blocks.

Students are using morphology lessons and many grades do vocabulary lessons through Flocabulary.

Vocabulary is integrated into lessons rather than practiced in isolation.

DLI programs will have different levels of integration of CKLA for English/Literacy, depending on the grade level.
