SIT Meeting Agenda
Meeting began at 2:32pm
- NCStar - is a web-based tool that guides a district or school Leadership Team in charting its improvement and managing data.
- Team Concerns/Questions
- Parent
- Kindergarten - can UCPS hire more teachers so computer skills cannot be taught in earlier grades?
There is not enough funding. We get 3 positions for special areas. Computer class is covered by Teacher Assistants (these do not write lesson plans). AES previously used a Typing Program that students would practice typing skills. However, when computers were re-imaged, the program disappeared. Mr. Childers may consider ordering the program again.
ii First Grade - none
- Second Grade -- Experience with Bilingual Language Learning and Curriculum Design….Position is not posted just yet. Grade level chair meeting needs to address how students are able to “tattle” on other students (ex: clipboard in the hallway, keeping track of others students’ behaviors). Mr. Childers encourages parents to address concerns with the teacher. After speaking with the teacher and nothing changes, then call the office and speak with Mr. Childers
- Third Grade --
--- can curb ramps be purchased for parking? Yes these will be purchased, temporary ones (not permanent ones). Permanent ones cannot be installed because then we have to put gravel down in the lot.
--- Is there a protocol when and when not to go out to recess? -- Mr. Childers will not put a blanket policy. It still needs to be teacher discretion. If parents do not agree with how the teacher is
--- Duct Tape Mr. Childers event has been missed this year. There was a simple conflict in schedule, not that Mr. Childers did not want too. He is willing to do it again.
- Fourth Grade - none

- Deeper Dive into NCStar: School Improvement Plan -- required to have 2 meetings each month (one meeting being SIT base team, and the other being a sub-committee of the School Improvement team such as MTSS)
Plan for next school year:
1st and 3rd Wednesdays - Staff Meeting
2nd Wednesday - SIT Meeting
4th Wednesday - MTSS Meeting
AES K-2 students will increase Reading Proficiency from 80% (2017-18) to at least 80% (2018-19) while meeting or exceeding projected growth percentiles by the mClass assessment. |
AES 3-5 students will increase reading proficiency from 85% to at least 88% (of scoring a 3 or higher) while meeting or exceeding projected percentiles or growth as measure on by the NC Reading EOG Assessment. |
3-5 will increase math proficiency from 87% (2017-18) to at least 90% (2018-19) while meeting or exceeding projected percentiles for growth as measured by the NC Math EOG. |
5th grade students will maintain science proficiency of 95% on the NC Science EOG. (99.3% - 2017-18) |
Concern arose about the new Reading Assessment materials for K - 2. The Reading Levels on the new testing materials do not align to UCPS county expectations. The books in the testing kits are also more difficult to understand. So the percentages in the goals above may need to be adjusted after our EOY assessments this year are completed.
Then time was taken to discuss indicators (strategies) that are closely related to our school goals above. After setting a goal and indicators with that goal, for next school year we are expected to scan, upload, etc. documentation into the NC Star online program that support us reaching those goals.
We will narrow down indicators and select 4-6 indicators that our school will use to work towards. Today we started discussion on 4 of the indicators.
- SMART Goals -- the committee did not review these today because we wanted to spend more time on the NC Star program to begin writing the School Improvement Plan for the upcoming school year. Review our SMART goals here: https://docs.google.com/document/d/127skjGkVikC8cWHs10ngpnCq4p7HhhwPBK98LXWRMs8/edit
