Thursday, January 30th, is our “Music is Always There” music program for 3rd, 4th, and 5th graders. Admission is free, however, we are challenging you to bring a donation of any size to Backpacks of Love. That program starts at 6:30 PM.
Kindergarten Registration begins February 3rd. Spread the word! Parents can visit New Salem Elementary anytime during the month of February to enroll your student. Office hours are 7 AM to 4 PM. Tours will be available February 3, 10, 24, and March 2 between the hours of 8 and 2. Call the school at 704-296-3175 to schedule a time or just drop-in during those times.
On Thursday, February 20th we will host our Kindergarten Knight Registration event. This is a drop in event from 6 PM-7 PM where parents can interact with New Salem staff, see the kindergarten classrooms, and ask questions that they may have about the registration process or about New Salem in general.
Friday, February 7th is our New Salem BBQ. We are excited to be offering extended dining room hours this year for families to eat on site. The dine in hours are 11-6:30.
As we continue to roll out successful BBQ’s we need to be thinking about sustainability. I am looking for a few parents who will hang out with me and the BBQ cookers Thursday night, the 6th, so we can learn the cooking process. Having more parents able to cook will help us ensure that we keep a consistent quality taste for years to come. Call me and let me know if you can help and I will get you specifics.
All students should come home today with their 2nd 9 weeks report card. Some students will also have a “Alert Letter”. An alert letter is simply ensuring that you are aware your child is not on grade level for this time of year with the standards that have been taught in either reading or math. If you get an Alert Letter your child’s teacher will be scheduling a parent/teacher conference with you so you can learn more about the details and how to support your child in the specific areas of need.
3rd grade students will also get a copy of their CoGat scores. Please review the parent letter attached and let us know if you have questions about the report.
Thank you and have a great evening.
