Schedule change requests:
Students can continue to complete the schedule change request form for the spring semester. The link was sent to students through canvas and will be open through the 5th day of class during the Spring semester.

Mental Health Resources:
Say Something App Reporting System (SS-ARS): students and adults can easily and completely confidentially report safety concerns to help prevent violence and tragedies. Tips can be submitted 24/7 through the website, app or by phone, and a crisis center reviews and sends all submissions to law enforcement and/or school administration for intervention.

MONROE-UNION BREAKFAST ROTARY CLUB  

Scholarships will be awarded based on the applicant’s credentials in the area of service to people, community, and the environment.  Applicants are required to write an essay of 250-300 words. APPLY HERE.  Email completed application to Bruce Leckey at bleckey2@gmail.com no later than February 9, 2022.

NCAE: THE DR. MARTIN LUTHER KING SCHOLARSHIP

This Scholarship was established in 1992 by the North Carolina Association of Educators Minority Affairs Commission under the auspices of the Human and Civil Rights Commission. It continues in partnership with the North Carolina Foundation for Public School Children. Scholarship awards are based on the amount of money received annually through donations and the Martin Luther King Jr events.   APPLY HERE  Each year the non-profit Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Committee, Inc. awards a $2,000 scholarship to one or more high school seniors to support their goals of higher education.  DEADLINE: JANUARY 31, 2022. 

  1. Your official high school transcript
  2. A copy of your acceptance letter from an accredited university or community college
  3. Three letters of recommendation
  4. Your completed handwritten essay

MARY & MILLARD KIKER SCHOLARSHIP FUND

If you would like to be considered for one of 3 MRHS nominations for this scholarship opportunity, please email Ms. Parks by February 10th.  Marvin Ridge will nominate 3 students to UCPS Superintendent.  The superintendent will then select the winner. The purpose of the Kiker Scholarship Fund is to offer college scholarships based upon merit, character, and financial need to students who are residents of Anson and Union Counties in North Carolina. Criteria for the service scholarship include the following:  1. Have a minimum cumulative grade point average of 2.5 (on a 4.0 scale).  2. Be a legal resident of Anson County or Union County, North Carolina.  3. Demonstrate substantial need for financial assistance. Total funds: $1000 - $4000.  

SILVER PEN SCHOLARSHIP 

is a writing competition for Seniors.  In addition to a personalized, engraved pen and framed certificate, winners receive: 1st Place: $2,500, 2nd Place: $750, 3rd Place: $500.  APPLY HERE  To complete your application, please include the following: Copy of transcript (can be unofficial), Essay on Community Topic. UNION COUNTY FARM BUREAU

Attention Agricultural students!  In his honor, the North Carolina Farm Bureau awards the R. Flake Shaw Scholarship to students pursuing higher education in an agricultural-related discipline.  Eight individual, university level scholarships granted for a four-year period at $4,500 per year ($18,000 total per student) and Four individual, community college scholarships granted for a two-year period at $1,000 per year ($2,000 total per student.)  Apply HERE.   DEADLINE: MARCH 7, 2022

 

CHAMBERS-MCCAIN FOUNDATION SCHOLARSHIPS
The Chambers McCain Foundation was founded in 2018 through the support of Beta Delta Boulé.  It serves and works closely with the fraternity to cultivate Black Americans in the areas of leadership, education, economic and social development.  To this end, the Chambers-McCain Foundation offers a scholarship program to enable high school students to attend and pay for their college education in the field of their choice. The Chambers McCain Foundation in cooperation with the Social Action Committee of Beta Delta Boulé will award educational scholarships in the amount of $10,000 ($2,500 per year for 4 years) to high school seniors entering an accredited college or university beginning in the fall semester of each year. To be eligible, the student must be an African American male, with a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or better (unweighted); from any high school, public or private in the Charlotte metropolitan area.  The student must be registering for full-time college enrollment (12 credits or more). Criteria for the scholarship award will be: Prior academic performance, Recommendations from persons knowledgeable of applicants’, capabilities, Additional information regarding applicants’ school activities, community service, background and financial need, Committee’s conclusion of applicant’s motivation, character, and potential. In addition to the award, we provide mentoring support and assistance finding internships. 2022 Applications are due Tuesday, February 15th, 2022.

UNION COUNTY POWER COOPERATIVE SCHOLARSHIP

Union Power Cooperative is awarding 10 - $1000 college scholarships to seniors. Awards are based on the following criteria: All applicants must be a child of a Union County Power Cooperative member or live in a home served by Union Power Cooperative.  The applicant must be a high school senior in the current graduating class. Criteria for awarding the scholarship to an individual is based on 40% need; 30% scholastic achievement; and 30% extracurricular activities in school, civic, and community functions.  Children of Union Power employees and its subsidiary, Union Services, are not eligible to apply.  An independent committee not affiliated with the Cooperative will conduct judging of applicants and selection of winners for Union Power Cooperative. Athletics

The next National Letter of Intent signing day is Wednesday, February 2 at 2pm in the Auditorium. Any signees should contact their coach or athletic director Jamerson for signing day information. 

Winter sports updates:

  1. Senior night for basketball/cheer/dance teams will take place on
  2. Friday, Jan 25 in between the varsity games (approximately 7:45p).
  3. Varsity girl’s basketball is in 1st place in the SCC and their next
  4. home game is Friday, Jan 25at 6:30p. Varsity Boys play at 8:00p
  5. Congratulations to both the boy's and girl’s swimming and diving
  6. team who won their SCC Championships last week. 
  7. Wrestling competes in the SCC tournament on Tuesday, Jan 25 at Porter
  8. Spring sports start on February 14 so make sure you have signedup on FamilyID and completed all of your compliance items to try out
