AP Literature and Composition 

• Over the summer, read two books: The Kite Runner by Khaled Hosseini and How to Read Literature Like a Professor by Thomas C. Foster. Students can either buy personal copies of these books or contact Mrs. Henry to borrow them from the school. During review week and exams at the end of the spring semester, students are welcome to stop by Room 209 (except during a test) and sign out copies.  There is no written assignment on these books until classes begin in August.  At that point, students will be asked to demonstrate how some of the thematic concepts that Foster discusses can be seen in The Kite Runner.  Warning: There is profanity in The Kite Runner and a scene of sexual violence against a child in the book. If students feel that these elements are objectionable, the alternative text is The Poisonwood Bible by Barbara Kingsolver. The school also has copies of The Poisonwood Bible for students to borrow.
