Dear Parent/Guardian:
During the testing window of February 22 - April 23, 2021, all limited English language proficient students
in Union County Public Schools (UCPS) will be assessed with the WIDA ACCESS test. This assessment
is a language proficiency test composed of four language domains: Listening, Speaking, Reading, and
Writing.
The information from the ACCESS test is valuable in making instructional and other academic planning
decisions for students. The outcome from the assessment results in an individual student English
Learner Plan. Schools use the individual EL Plans to plan appropriate instructional strategies for each
student. The ACCESS scores also help educators in identifying students who may benefit from continued
ESL services, testing accommodations, and/or multi-tiered support systems. UCPS will follow federal,
state, and local regulations/policies that are applicable when administering the language proficiency test.
The best way to prepare a child for this test is to make sure they have a good night’s sleep and eat a
good breakfast on the morning/s of the assessment.
For Virtual Academy families (Students in Plan D), we are offering on-site testing Thursdays and Fridays.
Your child’s school will contact you to make arrangements for testing and/or if you need bus
transportation.
Please contact your student’s school and ask to speak to the child’s ESL teacher or the school’s testing
coordinator with any questions you may have.
Thank you for your support of Union County Public Schools.
Sincerely,
The UCPS ESL Dept. -
