Jamie Hunt (Principal)
About Mrs. Hunt
I am honored to introduce myself as the new Principal of Waxhaw Elementary School. I am excited to be joining the Waxhaw community and leading the staff and students as we continue to strive for excellence. I would like to thank Mr. Marcello for his dedication and service to the Waxhaw community and wish him well in his new position.
I’d like to tell you a bit about myself. My name is Jamie Hunt and I bring with me eighteen years of experience in education. I have primarily worked in elementary schools as a first grade and fifth grade teacher, instructional coach and assistant principal. I am passionate about working with elementary aged students and giving them the very best in their early years of education.
My educational experience began at UNC Greensboro with a degree in Elementary Education and a minor in Music in 2006. After teaching for six years in Rockingham County Schools, I was selected for the North Carolina Principal Fellows Program. I graduated with a Master of School Administration degree from UNC Greensboro in 2014, then served for four years as an elementary Assistant Principal in Rockingham County Schools. In 2018, my family and I relocated to Union County, where I taught at Marshville Elementary School and most recently served as an Assistant Principal at Walter Bickett Elementary School.
I am a proud mom of three girls who also attend school at UCPS in high school, middle school and elementary school. When not at school, you will find me on a softball field, inside a cheer gym, or at a dance studio supporting my girls.
My top priorities as your Principal are safety, academic and family involvement. Every student and their family should walk into our school each day and be confident that they are safe and cared for. When it comes to academics, I believe our students deserve the best education every day for every year they are in school. Teachers have a profound impact on student success; their continued professional growth and development to meet the needs of all students will be a focus. Additionally, a student’s academic success is greatly influenced by the connection between home and school. It is my role as Principal to grow and nurture this connection and provide opportunities to come together for our students. Waxhaw has a strong community and tradition of excellence which we will continue to meet and build upon in the coming year.
It is my hope that you are enjoying your summer break and spending time with friends and family. I hope you are looking forward to the new school year as much as I am. In the coming weeks please look and listen out on connect-Ed and social media for opportunities for us to connect with each other. I look forward to meeting several of you this summer and will see you all at our open house in August.
