Ms. Natasha Higgins

Hi! My name is Natasha Higgins, and I am so excited to be the Media Specialist at New Salem Elementary!

I am originally from Tryon, NC, a small town in Western North Carolina. After high school, I attended Appalachian State University in Boone, NC, where I majored in Political Science with a concentration on American Government. Go, Mountaineers! After ASU, I spent a year in AmeriCorps *NCCC. This program is similar to the Peace Corps, except we stayed in the States and worked in different communities along the West Coast! It was a great experience and that led me to teach! Back home, I attended UNC-Asheville's Teaching Licensure program; the rest is history! I taught Middle School Social Studies and English/Language Arts for 9 years at Lake Lure Academy, Parkwood Middle, and East Union Middle. In the Fall of 2020, I finished East Carolina University's Master of Library Science program!

I love to travel and learn about new cultures! I have visited 15 countries so far! Bahamas, Canada, the Cayman Islands, Costa Rica, England, France, Greece, Ireland, Italy, Mexico, Monaco, Peru, Scotland, Spain, and Switzerland! (16--if you count a layover in Germany, but I didn't leave the airport!) Just ask if you want to see pictures and other things I've collected from my travels!
