    EBOB Program Information for 2019-2020

Does your child love to read? Does your child love to read but may have a hard time finding that ‘just right’ book? Consider having him/her participate in Marvin Elementary’s Battle of the Books program for the 2019-2020 school year.

EBOB is a program that is sponsored by the North Carolina School Library Media Association (NCSLMA). Each year the NCSLMA chooses fifteen books based upon literary merit, reading level difficulty, and genre. Schools that choose to participate in the EBOB program create teams of fourth and fifth graders who read and study the books and prepare to answer questions about the books in order to participate in a ‘quiz bowl’ style competition. Our school district’s competition is held in March and each school is allowed to bring twelve students to compete.

In order to participate in EBOB students are required to read six books on their own by October 21st. Note that there will be no after school meetings until the twelve member team is determined. During the week of October 21st students who would like to be considered for our EBOB team will take a test during their media class time which will cover the six required books. The twelve member team will be chosen based upon the results of the test. Beginning on Tuesday, November 12th our twelve EBOB team members will begin to meet and will continue to meet each Tuesday from 2:00-3:30pm until the district EBOB competition in March. If your child is interested in EBOB it is recommended that they begin reading over the summer. Click on the link below to access this year's reading list. Please be sure to read the books in the order that they are listed.

If you would like to learn more about our program please visit the media center web site located on our school’s website. Sign-ups for EBOB will occur on September 10th at our parent meeting.
