Marshville Elementary NC Report Card

  • October 2, 2022

Dear Parents and Friends of Marshville Elementary School,

Thank you for taking the time to learn more about the North Carolina School Report Card and Marshville Elementary! Once a year we provide you with updates on our school’s achievements through the North Carolina School Report Card. Indicators reported in our report card include school and student performance, class size, student attendance, school safety, instructional resources, and teacher quality. Report card data will be available for each school, for each school district, and for the state’s educational system as a whole.

Marshville Elementary currently maintains our School Performance Grade of a C. However, our overall performance increased from 59% to 62%, 8 percentage points away from a Grade of B. Our overall growth increased from 76.5% to 83.4%, which resulted in "Met" for growth expectations by the state. This was 1.6% away from "Exceeded" growth.

Test scores are one way to measure accountability and success, there are many other indicators of school quality that are important to parents and community members. At Marshville Elementary School, we are proud of the levels of intervention that we are able to provide to support student success and academic growth. Our staff is committed to providing quality, rigorous instruction each and every day and to developing a strong, academic foundation with success for all students.

We continue the implementation of a STEM (Science Technology Engineering and Math) classroom this year where students have the opportunity to be involved in a wide variety of hands-on learning projects. In addition, we will continue to be an AVID(Advancement Via Individual Determination) school. AVID is a methodology that teaches and reinforces academic behaviors and higher-level thinking at a young age. Our students develop age-appropriate yet challenging, academic habits they need to be successful throughout their school years and into college. AVID Elementary students learn about study skills, organization, communication, and self-advocacy. Children take structured notes and ask and answer high-level questions that go beyond routine answers. The AVID way will build a strong college- and career-going culture that motivates our students toward a bright future! Ae will also implement hands-on strategies learned from the Ron Clark Academy to improve instruction and increase engagement. Additionally, we have expanded our DLI (Dual Language Immersion) Instructional Program in Spanish and English to include kindergarten through fourth grade.

At Marshville Elementary, we focus on preparing students to be lifelong learners. Students learn to be readers, problem-solvers, and creative thinkers who are ready for the future and prepared to be productive citizens in the 21st century. We work to grow and empower all students so that they exemplify the characteristics of a portrait of a UCPS graduate.

We are in our sixth year of PBIS (Positive Behavior Intervention Support) implementation and we continue to support each student's social and emotional needs. PBIS teaches students appropriate behavior while focusing on building relationships and promoting positive actions by all.

Thank you for allowing us to share our annual report card with you and thank you for supporting our efforts to provide our children with a high-quality, twenty-first-century education. We look forward to continuing to grow in our success throughout the 2022-2023 school year!

    Sincerely,

    Courtney Luce, Principal
