Message from our Principal

  • Dear Unionville Families and Friends,

Unionville Elementary School prides itself on delivering a quality education to all students. Our goal is to develop 21st Century learners who will be successful in a global society. Through effective practices, timely intervention, advocacy for students, and honoring traditions, we hope to develop well-rounded students ready for secondary education and beyond.

Unionville Elementary School strives to stay abreast of the latest trends in education to meet the ever changing needs of the students in our school.  We are currently focusing on the professional development of the Science of Reading and attending a two-year-long LETRS training session. This  will strengthen our phonological instruction and gaps with struggling readers.

We offer many opportunities for students to participate in activities outside the classroom including, Art Club, Girls on the Run, Broadway Bob, Student Council, and Boys Adventure Club.  Through these activities, students are able to broaden their horizons and staff members become active advocates for their academic and social lives.

At Unionville Elementary School, we are proud of our history and traditions.  This year we will be hosting the 73rd Annual Unionville BBQ.  This event involves hundreds of volunteers from our community and Unionville staff members working together to support the learning needs of our students.  To honor the history of this event and the school, we continue to add to our History Wall created during the 2014-2015 school year.  The wall is a collection of photographs and artifacts collected and donated to the school over the years.  We are in our 10th year of a Spanish Immersion program and Unionville is fully implemented with one class per grade level, kindergarten through fifth grade. Unionville is a Model Global Ready School and our certification was renewed in April of 2021.

By continuing these practices, we ensure students receive the education they deserve.  The effectiveness of these efforts determines the success of students.  Another indicator of our success as a school is the North Carolina Report Card.  This instrument is a reflection of the achievement and growth our students made in the previous school year. School Report Cards are federally mandated and provide community members and stakeholders with key information about our school.

Our mission is to keep everyone with an interest in Unionville Elementary School informed of our progress. We are happy to answer any questions regarding the NC Report Card at any time.  Together, we can achieve more!

    Sincerely,

    Dr. Sharyn VonCannon, Principal
