Kelly Thomas (Principal)
About Mrs. Thomas
Mrs. Kelly S. Thomas is the principal of Fairview Elementary School. She is a native of Union County. Her parents are both retired elementary school principals from UCPS. Mrs. Thomas received her bachelor of arts in business management from North Carolina State University and worked in the banking industry for five years. In 1994, she began working on her master’s degree in school counseling. She completed the 60 hours of graduate work required in December 2009. She worked at Piedmont Middle School as the lead counselor for five years. Then her career as a school counselor continued at Piedmont High School during the 2001-2002 school year. She then worked at Unionville Elementary School during the 2002-2003 year.
Mrs. Thomas was named the assistant principal of Fairview Elementary School in the summer of 2003. At that time, she was working to complete her second master’s degree in the area of school administration and curriculum from UNC Charlotte. She served as assistant principal for three years and was promoted to principal in the summer of 2006.
Mrs. Thomas is passionate about being a lifelong learner and has continued her professional career development by attending various workshops, the NC Teacher Academy and conferences. She completed the Principals’ Executive Program at the Center for School Leadership Development at UNC Chapel Hill in December 2008.
Mrs. Thomas is married to David Thomas and they have two children, Alex and Taylor. She enjoys spending time with her family and friends. Her favorite vacation destination is anywhere sunny and sandy with a warm ocean breeze.
Mrs. Thomas believes that Fairview Elementary School is a great place to learn and work. She feels that the students, staff and community make the school one of the best schools in North Carolina. This community truly cares about each other and places the students’ best interests above all else.

Rachel Seighman (Assistant Principal)
About Mrs. Seighman
Mrs. Seighman grew up in Pennsylvania and moved to North Carolina in 2000. She began working with Union County Public Schools in October of 2000 as a School Counselor. Fairview Elementary was her home for 19 years before she ventured on to work as a High School Counselor for 1 1/2 years. Mrs. Seighman came "home" to Fairview Elementary School in January 2021 to work as the Assistant Principal.
Mrs. Seighman attended Indiana University of Pennsylvania for her bachelor's degree in rehabilitation counseling and West Virginia University for her master's degree in rehabilitation counseling. Once she moved to N.C., she took additional courses to become a school counselor and obtained her license in School Counseling. In 2006, Mrs. Seighman became part of Wingate University's first Administrative Cohort to take courses and gain her Administrative license.
Mrs. Seighman lives with her family in Monroe, N.C. with her two daughters, Olivia and Claira, her husband Eric and dog Sally. She enjoys reading, trying new restaurants, visiting new places, and spending time with her family and friends.
