Art and creative expression shine at the 2023 UCCAC annual student showcase

Several Union County Public Schools middle and high school students won awards and honorable mentions at the 2023 Union County Community Arts Council (UCCAC) Student Artist Showcase.

The countywide competition, presented by Atrium Health, UnionPowerCooperative, Union County Arts Council and North Carolina Arts Council, encourages and promotes interest in the arts at all grade levels. Elementary schools submit artwork for display only. Students submit work in the categories that include ceramics/pottery, crafts, computer art, digital imagery, black and white drawing, color drawing, mixed media, painting and printmaking.

Alexandra Uporova of Porter Ridge Middle School and Sara Mikes of Weddington High School won first place in their categories and Best of the Show for their grade level. There will be a celebration event on June 3 for the first-, second-, and third-place winners at the new Atrium West Hospital.
