  • It's that time of year again!  Start thinking of your designs for the Pumpkin Decorating Contest. Bring your decorated pumpkins to the Media Center by no later than 9:00 am on Wednesday, October 31st and be entered into the competition.  First Place is a $50 Console Card of Choice, Second Place is a $40 Console Card of Choice, or Third Place is a $30 Console Card of Choice.  Please click HERE to see all the information and to get a form.   • Calling all performers! The first Open Mic Club meeting will be held on Thursday, October 25th until 5pm in Ms. Belk’s room 254. It typically meets the fourth Thursday of each month until 5:00 in room 254.  Open Mic club members will perform to entertain those having snacks in the cafeteria during the home basketball games and the school wide Poetry Slam. Open Mic is not just for singers, but also for musicians, writers and poetry slammers.  Anyone interested may pick up a permission form in my room 254, Ms. Phanor’s room, or in the front office.  Permission slips must be signed in order for students to stay for the first meeting on the 25th.

  • Sketch Club is starting on Oct. 24th from 3:45-4:30. Students will practice and learn new techniques in sketching and drawing. The club will meet the second and 4th Wed. of every month.

  • Picture for Entertainment books

    8th Graders are selling the Attraction Books to help pay for their field trip to Washington DC in April.  You can purchase the books online at attractionsbook.com/ezpayOur school code is SVMS.  You can pick your book up at the school in the front office with your receipt. There is over $5000 worth of local business coupons to use and the school earns 50% of all sales.  Undesignated funds will be collected into a Field Trip Scholarship fund that will be available to all grade levels when the need arises.

    These make great gifts for anyone local!  And you support our students directly!

  • 7th and 8th Grade girls interested in Basketball Cheerleading - Tryouts are Monday, October 22nd 6:00-7:30 in the cafeteria.Cheer candidates need to wear black shorts and a white shirt and cheer shoes or athletic sneakers and have their hair up in a ponytail.

  • UCPS is having the Holiday Card Contest again! Any student who is currently enrolled in UCPS is eligible to participate. The winning submission will be featured as the cover of the UCPS Holiday Card with the student's name, grade and school. For more information, please click HERE.

  • 2019-2020 Calendar Survey

  • SVMS Students Take Flight!

    SVMS has a new Project Lead the Way(PLTW) class this year called Flight and Space. PLTW is a project that promotes introducing students to the Engineering Process. It involves students in cooperative group work and communication skills related to the Engineering field. This past week students launched their first flight projects.

    Students in Ms. Ollis’, Ms. Campbell’s, and Ms. Grise-Haney’s CTE classes took part in a presentation by Charlie Conner from the Charlotte Pipe and Foundry Company in recognition of Manufacturing Awareness Week.

    In an effort to support our Eastern NC friends and families who were affected by Hurricane Florence, Sun Valley Middle School will be collecting donated items starting today and ending the collection on Friday, September 28.

  • September is Library Card Sign-up Month

    The Public Library of Union County and Union County Public Schools are excited to announce a new program called LEAP (Libraries and Educators as Partners). Students can now access electronic materials such as e-books, digital audiobooks, magazines and databases with their UCPS information. Their student ID number becomes their library card number and their PIN number is their year of birth.

  • Musical Auditions

    Do you know a student who seeks an opportunity to showcase their talent? Mrs. Morgan and Mrs. Krest are holding auditions for the musical “Little Mermaid, Jr. on Thursday, and Friday (September 6, and 7) from 4:00-5:30. Students must be present both days unless prior approval has been given by Mrs. Morgan or Mrs. Krest.
