Piedmont High serves ninth through 12th-grade students and is located in Monroe. We have traditional offerings. We also offer students an opportunity to pursue careers in medicine and public safety through our nurse aide and firefighter academies. Students can graduate with certifications and credits in those areas.

Dylan Stamey (Principal)
About Mr. Stamey
Mr. Stamey is a native of Asheville, NC. Upon completion of high school, he attended Appalachian State University where he competed on the collegiate wrestling team and majored in psychology. His career in education began at his alma mater, Enka High, where he worked as a special education teacher from 2004-2013. While working at Enka High, he provided instruction in the Occupational Course of Study and inclusion courses across the curriculum, in addition to performing coaching duties for the wrestling team.
While completing his Master’s degree in Executive Leadership at Gardner-Webb University, Mr. Stamey relocated to the Charlotte, NC area where he worked as the Interim Dean of Students at Steele Creek Elementary School. During the 2014-2015 school year, he returned to the classroom as an Exceptional Children’s teacher at Marvin Ridge High School. Mr. Stamey accepted a position as Assistant Principal during the summer of 2015 at Piedmont High School, and was named Principal in 2019 where he continues to implement his philosophy that positive relationships are the key to academic success.
During his free time, Mr. Stamey enjoys spending time with his family; wife Tracy and daughters Hayden and Finley. Together they enjoy participating in athletic activities in addition to spending time outdoors.

Claire Conklin (Assistant Principal)
About Mrs. Conklin
Mrs. Conklin is a native of Polkton, NC. Upon graduation from Anson County Schools, she attended the University of North Carolina at Charlotte under scholarship with NC Teaching Fellows. Student teaching brought her to Union County Public Schools, and with a major in Middle Grades education, her career has continued with UCPS since 2008. She has spent her time in education serving the Forest Hills Cluster as a math and science teacher at EUMS, FHHS, and as a Master Teacher at FHHS under their recent EPIC grant.
While completing her Master’s degree in Executive Leadership Studies at Gardner-Webb University, Mrs. Conklin did administrative internship hours at FHHS. She accepted a position as Assistant Principal at Piedmont High School in July 2022.
Mrs. Conklin and her husband David have 2 children. Mrs. Conklin enjoys traveling and watching her kids play ball. She looks forward to working with the Piedmont community and is proud to be a Panther.

John Martin (Assistant Principal)
About Mr. Martin
Mr. Martin came to Piedmont High School from Anson Middle School in Wadesboro, NC, where he served as Assistant Principal for four years and Athletic Director for six years. Prior to administration, Mr. Martin was an instructional coach for one year and taught Health & Physical Education for fourteen years (elementary three years & middle school eleven years). Additionally, he coached middle school golf, middle school basketball, and high school golf.
Martin was a golf student-athlete at The University of North Carolina at Pembroke where he earned his Bachelor of Science in Business Administration. He added a Master of Arts in Physical Education while working as a graduate assistant to the UNC Pembroke golf team and later obtained his School Administration Principal Licensure.
Mr. Martin and his wife, Katherine, reside in Union County. They have two children, Georgia and Will. He and his family enjoy spending time together doing various activities, but love going to the beach when time allows.

Amanda Starnes (Assistant Principal)
About Mrs. Starnes
Mrs. Starnes is a proud 2004 graduate of Piedmont High School. She received the North Carolina Teaching Fellows scholarship and attended the University of North Carolina at Charlotte, graduating in 2008 with a Bachelor of Science in Biology. After teaching for two years in a nearby district, she returned to her alma mater in 2010 and taught in the Science department at Piedmont High for 12 years before accepting the Assistant Principal position. She has completed a Master in Science Education from East Carolina University, graduating in 2021. She is currently working on a Master of Educational Leadership through Gardner-Webb University.
Mrs. Starnes is married to her husband Kevin and they have two sons who are actively involved in sports. Mrs. Starnes enjoys spending time with her family and raising her boys in the community that she grew up in. She has a true heart for the Piedmont community and is proud to be a team member of such a wonderful school.
