About Dr. Henderson

Dr. Henderson was born and raised in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. He received his Elementary Education degree from Edinboro University in Pennsylvania, masters degrees in School Administration and Elementary education from UNCC, and Educational Specialist and Doctoral degrees from Wingate University. After teaching and serving as headmaster at a mission school in Malawi, Africa for a year, Dr. Henderson trained adults with intellectual disabilities to work in their communities. He taught elementary and middle school in Charlotte before serving as an assistant principal at Porter Ridge Elementary School when it opened. After serving 5 years as principal at Shiloh Elementary, and 6 years as principal at Wingate Elementary, he loves serving the Wesley Chapel School Community in his 29th year as a professional educator. His hobbies include mountain biking, backpacking, gardening, and reading. His wife, two children, and he reside in Union County.

About Mrs. Phelix

Mrs. Nicole Phelix received her undergraduate degrees in Sociology, Criminology, and Communications from SUNY Cortland in New York. She received her Master's Degree in Leadership in Teaching Special Education from the College of Notre Dame in Maryland and her Master's Level Certification in School Administration from Wingate University.

Before coming to Union County, Mrs. Phelix taught Special Education for three years in Baltimore City, Maryland. She then taught for the next seven years at Shiloh Elementary before transferring to Wingate Elementary. Mrs. Phelix spent the next five years as Assistant Principal of Wingate Elementary. In the summer of 2017, Mrs. Phelix was announced as the new Assistant Principal at Wesley Chapel Elementary School. During the 2021-2022 school year, Mrs. Phelix was named Assistant Principal of the Year for Union County Public Schools.   

The oldest of seven children, Mrs. Phelix grew up on a large dairy farm in Upstate New York. She contributes her strong work ethic and her love for children to her dad and the values he instilled in her. Mrs. Phelix and her husband, Jason, are proud parents of two daughters, Kyrah and Jaeden. In May 2022, Kyrah graduated from Lander University with a Master’s Degree in Business Administration and Jaeden earned her undergraduate degrees in Criminal Justice and Psychology from East Carolina University. Jaeden currently attends Appalachian State University, where she is pursuing a Master’s Degree in Experimental Psychology.

She resides with her family in Indian Trail. In her spare time, Mrs. Phelix enjoys hiking, going to the beach, and spending time with friends and family.

Mrs. Phelix loves working with the students, parents, and staff members at Wesley Chapel Elementary and looks at each day as a new adventure.
