Track and Field Banquet
There will be a banquet for all track and field athletes and their parents on Tuesday, May 29th at 6 pm in the cafeteria. All track athletes should stop by Coach Tillman's room (Rm 205) to RSVP for the event.
Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc.
There will be an information session on June 2 and 3 from 3:30pm-5:00pm for girls interested in learning more about developing strong leadership skills and cultural awareness. Upcoming Club/Class Information
The next SAVE/SADD club meeting is scheduled for Thursday, May 24th at 7:50 in room 202.
Anyone interested in being on Student Council for the 2018/2019 school year, please stop by Mr. Mather's room (605) to pick up your application. All applications will be due this Thursday, May 24th.
The SADD/SAVE Club is observing World No Tobacco Day on Wednesday, May 30th. Come out to the club’s informative booth that day during your lunch to find out more about this effort to end teen tobacco usage and vaping. The booth will contain information and statistics on the history of tobacco usage, dangers, costs, etc. and also include an anti-tobacco pledge. Remember to take a moment to help yourself and others by staying away from and aware of the dangers of tobacco, nicotine, and vaping.
There are a LIMITED number of yearbooks available for sale. Sales will be open to Seniors only on Thursday, May 24th from 7:50-8:15am and 3:12-3:30pm in room 604. If there are any yearbooks left sales will be open to all classes Friday, May 25th. The cost of yearbooks are $81.13 and checks should be made out to Parkwood High School. You must have exact change if paying in cash.
We will continue to have attendance recovery every day until June 1st, from 3:30pm to 5:30pm in the school cafeteria. We will also have attendance recovery on Saturday May 19th from 8:00am-2:00pm and on May 26th from 8:00am-2:00pm. Have your child see Mr. Moore or Mrs. Broome if they have any questions about attendance recovery.
Graduation Information - Please Read Carefully
Seniors - You will receive ten complimentary graduation tickets after graduation practice on Friday, June 8th. All guests that enter the doors (including small children) MUST have a ticket. Due to the size of the senior class, additional tickets will not be available for purchase.
Looking for Community Service Hours? Become a Reading Buddy!
Are you a Parkwood High student who is interested in earning community service hours by becoming a reading buddy at the Union County Farmers Market located at 805 Skyway Dr. Monroe, NC? This summer they will be offering 30 minute reading buddy sessions for children who attend the Farmer's Market with their parents on Saturday mornings. The sessions will be held in the Farmer's Market multipurpose room and will allow young children to read with an older "buddy". All books, literacy materials and training would be provided by the Union County Public Library. FFA Summer Camp at White Lake
FFA Summer Camp will be August 6-10th in White Lake, NC. Any FFA member interested in attending needs to sign up with Mrs. Hill and pay a $50 deposit to hold their spot. The total cost is $200. We have limited spots so first come first serve. We need deposits ASAP.
Senior Service Learning Recognition
Are you a senior who has served the community during the past 12 months? Would you like to be recognized for your service? If you meet the following guidelines you could be recognized at graduation for your community service.
- Only seniors may apply.
- A letter of application outlining student’s community service during the previous 12 months should be submitted to the Guidance.
- Community service can be school-based or community-based.
- Students need to submit two (2) letters of support from non-relative adults who have intimate knowledge of, or who are in a position to, verify the student’s record of community service.
- The principal will appoint a committee consisting of one (1) counselor, two (2) teachers, one (1) administrator, and one (1) community person. This committee will review the letters and select the winner.
