Indian Trail Elementary School NC Report Card
October 7, 2021
Dear Indian Trail Parents and Friends,
In alignment with Union County Public Schools, Indian Trail Elementary embraces a vision that our students will be prepared for the 21st century workforce by empowering students to connect, collaborate, and create products that engage students with the curriculum. “As ITES leaders, we share responsibility to prepare well-rounded stakeholders to lead the way for the changing future.”
Throughout the year, we provide regular updates to you about your student’s academic progress by sending home progress reports and/or Leadership Notebooks and a student report card every six weeks. Then, once a year we provide you with updates on our overall achievements of the school through the North Carolina School Report Card.
The data points that you see on the Report Card are just on the surface level of all that we do. We encourage you to schedule a guided tour to see the “behind the scenes” action that takes place daily.
At Indian Trail Elementary, we proudly believe in educating the whole child to unlock his/her full potential and capitalize on their unique gifts and qualities. Our children are much more complex than a test score. We are committed to individually meeting the academic, social, emotional, and safety needs of all of our students and work to continuously improve so that we are the best option for education, bar none.
We are proud of the warm, caring environment that our school provides. We have a well-balanced curriculum that supports all of our students. We believe that our school is a special place with highly qualified and dedicated faculty and staff, great students, involved parents, and a supportive community.
Additionally, we believe that every child has gifts to be a leader and part of our role is to develop the interests and talents of each child, so that his/her leadership skills can be increased. We have collaborative teams of teachers that provide our students with a strong fundamental education that is aligned to the North Carolina Standard Course of Study. We also respect equity, diversity, and inclusion while incorporating multiple paths to knowledge.
We continue to grow as educators as we embrace following initiatives:
- the use of Student Leadership Notebooks, student led conferences and students setting learning goals.
- the use of the continuous classroom improvement model (4 Disciplines of Execution)
- the implementation of Professional Learning Communities (PLC's)
- the implementation of The Leader in Me (www.theleaderinme.org )
We are so very proud that our school was also recognized as The Leader in Me Lighthouse School in May, 2016 to compliment our learning program. We are the first school in UCPS to accomplish this recognition and recertified as a Leader in Me Lighthouse school in July, 2021 We proudly share our accomplishments each year with our annual Leadership Day so that our community can experience our school culture first hand for a full day of tours with our students. Report data is available for our school district and for the state’s education system as a whole. I have enclosed with this letter a summary of our Report Card called the Report Card Snapshot. Our Full Report Card can be found on the NC School Report Cards’ website as well as our school district’s report. Please take a moment to review our school’s full Report Card so that you have a complete overview about our school. It includes our school’s achievements, student performance, class sizes, attendance, instructional resources, and teacher quality. If you have any questions, concerns or suggestions, please contact me at Gina.Chisum@UCPS.K12.nc.us or 704-296-3095.
Thank you for allowing me to share this Report Card with you and thank you for supporting our efforts to provide your child with a high-quality, whole-child centric education. We especially thank you for allowing us to continue to reflect and grow. Today and every day, we are peacock-proud to be empowering learners and leaders to lead the way.
Gina Chisum, Ed. D.
