Shiloh Elementary School NC Report Card

    Dear Shiloh Community:

Welcome to the 2018-19  school year! As you are aware, we provide regular updates to you about your student's academic progress by sending home report cards. Similarly, we provide you with an update once a year on our school's achievements through the North Carolina School Report Card. The North Carolina School Report Card includes important information about our school, school performance, class sizes, attendance, school safety, instructional resources, and teacher quality. The report cards are available by clicking the link at the top of this letter.

At Shiloh Elementary School, our faculty and administration believe that all students have unique abilities and can learn. As professional educators with high expectations, it is our goal to create and maintain a safe and caring environment where children are challenged, motivated, and guided to become lifelong learners who will reach their fullest potential and in turn strengthen their community.

Shiloh takes pride in our school's accomplishments. We are a 2013 Blue Ribbon School as recognized by the United States Department of Education. Locally, we were recognized as a UCPS International School, the highest level of recognition for our globalization efforts, for four years from 2011-2015. Shiloh also earned designation as a 2017-18 Model School in the North Carolina Positive Behavior Intervention and Support (PBIS) annual State Recognition Program. We also have Spanish immersion classrooms on all  grade levels.

State and Federal targets have been set for the school, and for identified subgroups. We met 15/15 of our participation targets for the North Carolina End of Grade testing. Overall, Shiloh did not meet its expected growth on the  Spring 2018 NC Ready End of Grade tests. We earned a School Performance Grade of a "C" from the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction. We work closely with the UCPS Central Services staff, the UCPS Curriculum staff, and our parents in order to maintain a cohesive school community that fosters an atmosphere of teamwork, open communication, and excellence.

Our results and the report card are only a small part of the Shiloh success story. For example, we have hired tutors to provide students with small group instruction. We offer additional academic instruction for identified students during selected intersessions. During the 2018-19 school year, we will continue to provide intervention times designed to meet the needs of all of our students whether they are working below, at, or above grade level. Our administration operates under the philosophy of continuous improvemen. Our teachers are provided feedback on improving their craft through classroom walkthroughs, observations, and coaching.

Our teacher assistants are a highly motivated and professional group who are being utilized effectively in our classrooms to help meet the needs of our students. We provide time each grading period for our teachers to do collaborative planning. Our teachers also engage in cross-grade level planning to increase communication across the grade levels. After school tutoring and clubs are in place to meet the needs of diverse learners. We engage in on-going conversations about how we can continue to grow as a Professional Learning Community. We provide meaningful staff development to our teachers.

As stated, the  Shiloh Administration adheres to the philosophy of continuous improvement beacuse we aim to be a more effective school with each passing day. Our Site-Based team analyzes survey data from teachers and parents so that we can identify and set specific goals to address areas of need in our School Improvement Plan. Our teachers analyze their formative assessment data in order to help our students show improvement. We continue with events such as Literacy Night, Book Fairs, and SHOW ME ("Shiloh's Open Working Media Event") to provide parents with reading strategies to be used at home and to put books in the hands of our students. These are just a few of the examples of how Shiloh Elementary continues to maintain high expectations while constantly seeking to improve. We are proud of our achievements, but we realize we must continue to improve the proficiency of our students as measured on the End of Grade tests.

Please feel free to contact the school to discuss this report card or anything else regarding Shiloh Elementary School. The faculty and staff at Shiloh appreciate your support as we strive to prepare every child for success. Thank you for allowing me to share this information with you, and for your confidence in me as your principal.
