PIEDMONT MIDDLE SCHOOL DRESS CODE
The purpose of our school’s dress code promotes a respectful and professional environment as well as nurtures a sense of purpose among our middle school students. Our goal is to instill in them the importance of personal presentation and the impact it can have on their future success. By adhering to the dress code, our students will develop essential skills such as self-expression, attention to detail, and understanding appropriate attire for different occasions. They will learn to make conscious choices that reflect their individuality while also respecting our diverse community.
The faculty and administration reserve the right to question and discourage any attire considered inappropriate for the school environment.
-
Dress code infractions will require students to change and/or certain items may be confiscated depending on the nature of the dress code infraction. Repeated offenses may result in an additional consequence assigned by administration.
The following dress code will be enforced at Piedmont Middle School:
-
Dresses, shorts, and skirts must come to rest at or below a student's pinky finger. Slits in skirts and holes in pants must also follow the same guideline. Students who must pull or tug excessively at their clothing in order to comply with this policy will be found to be in violation.
-
No cut t-shirts, spaghetti straps, off-the-shoulder tops, mesh tops, tube tops, or halter tops are allowed.
-
No undergarments are to be visible at any time.
-
No midriffs should show; shirts must be longer than the waistline of skirts, shorts, or pants.
-
No trench coats are permitted.
-
No deep-plunging shirts; all shirts should adequately cover the upper body.
-
Pants and shorts are to be worn at the waist.
-
No neckbands, belts, or bracelets may be worn if they have metal spikes protruding from them.
-
Wallet chains or any chains on clothing are not to be worn as they present a safety hazard.
-
Clothing and other items may not display, advertise, or promote any product or activity that is illegal or that is not permitted at school. Words or symbols that are vulgar, obscene, or insulting for a person, group, or gender are prohibited. Any clothing displaying items that disrupt the school learning environment are prohibited.
-
Gang attire (including but not limited to clothing with sewn-in bandanas, etc.) and gang symbols are prohibited on campus at all times. Please refer to Union County Public School Policy on Gangs and Gang Activities located in your student handbook.
-
No headgear of any kind including but not limited to sunglasses, hoods, hats, rags, or bandanas may be worn when transitioning. Violation of this policy will result in the item being confiscated.
All students will be responsible for following the dress code as established by Piedmont Middle School and Union County Public Schools. Student dress or grooming that is deemed by the staff as disruptive or inappropriate is not permitted. Failure to comply with the dress code will result in a student being provided with alternative clothing if possible or a parent phone call to bring appropriate clothes. Repeat incidents will result in an administrative consequence.
