  • Connect Ed - June 7

    Good afternoon Piedmont families,

This is Principal Eley with the final update for the 2019-2020 school year. It has been such a wonderful year at Piedmont and I can hardly believe that it has come to an end. However, we are not heading into summer quite yet, as we have a busy week ahead. As stated last week, we will begin our student item pick up on Monday, June 8th for 8th grade students, Tuesday June, 9th for 7th grade students and Wednesday, June 10th for 6th grade students. Each day our pickups will run from 8am to 4pm. We ask that students and families enter through the car rider line and place a paper with student first and last name on their dashboard for staff to quickly read. If you have multiple students in different grades, you can get all items any particular day, just make sure you place all names so staff can quickly retrieve these items.

Yearbooks that have been ordered as well as medication will also be available for pick up and we ask that students bring back their library books, calculators and any other school items that need to be returned. Student chromebooks are not going to be collected. If you haven’t purchased a yearbook and would like to do so, we have about 200 available for purchase during this time as well. They will be first come first serve.

On Tuesday, June 9th, we welcome all students and families to a quick farewell parade beginning in the car rider line and cycling through our campus where teachers and staff will be lined to wave a final farewell to our students for the summer. We ask that 6th grade students arrive at 5:30, 7th at 6:00 and 8th at 6:30 to help with traffic. We will also have off duty officers helping with the parade route. Feel free to decorate your cars and posters, but please do not get out of your car during the parade.

Staff will be mailing substitute report cards home to students and parents on June 10th. These feedback forms are in lieu of the traditional report card and will provide important information regarding the progress of your student in his/her classes this year. 8th graders will also receive their promotion certificates also by mail.

Finally, the Union County Board of Education has approved the required changes to the academic calendar for the 2020-2021 school year. The calendars are posted on the district’s website. The approved calendar reflects the state requirement of beginning school for students on August 17th, adding 5 additional days of learning and identifying 5 remote learning days throughout the school year.

At the close of this very untraditional school year, I want to personally thank all students, parents, community members and staff for their tremendous support and encouragement. I am honored to be a part of such an amazing team and I look forward to the years ahead! Have a wonderful summer
