  • Connect Ed - March 17

    Good evening, Piedmont Middle School families. This Dr. Strickland with the Week in Preview for March 18 – 22. This week, on Tuesday AND Thursday, our PTO will be sponsoring Spirit Night at Pizza Hut. On Tuesday, it will be at the Monroe Mall Pizza Hut location and on Thursday it will be at the Wingate location. Also, this Friday, our students will benefit from the PTO’s positive involvement in our school through the Panther Bucks Store! We’re in the fifth six weeks of the school year already, so it’s definitely time to buckle down and make sure that all of our students are doing their VERY BEST in everything they’re learning! It’s great to be a Piedmont Panther and I’m so thankful to be a part of this GREAT community! Thank you for all you do to make sure that our students understand that Every Minute Matters!

    One final announcement for 8th grade parents: If you are hoping for your student to take advantage of Piedmont High School’s School of Choice option, the hard deadline is March 31. Make sure you fill out all paperwork in time! We’d love for you to continue to be part of the Piedmont Legacy!

  • UCPS Elementary Coding Camp

    Mrs. Griffin, Computer Programming teacher, will be hosting the first ever UCPS Elementary Coding Camp here at Piedmont Middle. This camp is available to rising 4th, 5th, and 6th-grade students currently enrolled in Union County Public Schools and will be held June 24 - 27th. This camp runs each day beginning at 9:00 AM until 3:00 PM. Students must have reliable transportation to and from Piedmont Middle School each day.  The cost of the camp is $75.00 per student payable to Union County Public Schools.

    This will be a fun week of coding and team building activities.  Students will not only learn coding through various projects in, but will also unleash their creativity through hands-on activities.  Campers will build games, interactive stories, websites, programmable circuits, and programmable drones.  Coding students will receive personalized instruction and collaborate with new friends.  After camp, kids will be able to share projects with family and friends through the online website that we build during camp.  Campers will also be able to continue their coding development through online access.

    Eighth-grade students are receiving their Program of Studies books AND their PSAT results throughout this week (Mar 4-8) in their math classes. (Whitley – Monday; Edwards – Tuesday; Morgan- Wednesday; Blalock – Friday). Slides shared during that class meeting:  HS Registration Information

    Friday, March 8 – CTE (Career & Technical Education) Fair during PE class

    Tuesday, March 12 – Rising 9th grade Parent/Student information night at PHS (last name A-M @ 6:00; last name N-Z @6:45)

    W-Fri, March 13-15 – online registration (during PT)

    Tu-Wed, March 19-20 – HS staff to visit MS to finalize registration with individual students

    Final schedules will be mailed during the summer months.

    Union Power Cooperative is pleased to provide the opportunity for young men and women to attend basketball camps. Students in fifth through seventh grade are eligible to apply.

    The Touchstone Energy Sports Camp Scholarship recipients will work closely with staff from each camp to learn fundamental basketball skills, work collaboratively with teammates, and be encouraged to set goals and establish new friendships. We’re confident camp graduates will gain new skills that will develop their character and help them excel on and off the court.

    Seventh Grade Students and Parents:

    The Duke TIP (Talent Identification Program) 7th grade Talent Search is open to current seventh-grade students who qualify through one of three methods:

    1. Scoring at or above the 95th national percentile on an accepted grade-level national standardized achievement or abilities test
    2. Scoring at or above the 95th percentile on a state assessment
    3. Scoring 125 or above (full scale or composite) on an accepted IQ test
