Volunteer to be a Reading Buddy

When you join Team UCPS as a Read with U volunteer, you’re more than a reading buddy. You’re a mentor, role model and a resource for helping our students to succeed. The program is simple: sign up to be a reading buddy and spend 30 minutes each week reading with a first-grade student. Hemby Bridge is launching the program this year. It’s a small commitment that can yield long-lasting gains, and a great opportunity to foster a lifelong love of reading in young students.
Since launching in the fall of 2017, the Read with U program has paired community members like you with first graders throughout the district. Join these volunteers today and make the commitment to play a critical role in a young person’s life.
Signing up for Read With U is easy as 1-2-3
- Complete a volunteer application.
- Once your application is approved, use the Sign-Up Genius to pick your time.
- Read with your student for at least 30 minutes once per week during the school year.
