Katie Colson (Principal)
About Ms. Colson

Ms. Katie Colson brings over 22 years of experience in education. She earned a Bachelor of Science in Human Development and Family Studies from Auburn University, a Master of Education and an Education Specialist degree from Troy State University. Additionally, she holds a Post-Graduate Certification in Administration from Wingate University.

Ms. Colson began her teaching career in 2001 at Hannan Elementary in Muscogee County, Georgia. Over the years, she has taught all levels from kindergarten through fifth grade and has served as an instructional coach in various counties across Georgia. In 2022, she relocated to North Carolina and joined UCPS as an instructional coach at Weddington Elementary School.

Ms. Colson has one son who attends Weddington Elementary. Outside of work, she enjoys watching Auburn Tigers football, spending time with family and friends, and reading. She is very excited about the opportunity to continue serving the Weddington Elementary community!

Dr. Genevieve Leydig (Assistant Principal)

About Dr. Leydig

Dr. Genevieve Leydig is excited to serve as the new Assistant Principal of Weddington Elementary. She began her educational career 15 years ago teaching in Broward County Public Schools located in South Florida. She has taught multiple grade levels, subject areas, and exceptionalities. Prior to relocating to Waxhaw, she was serving as an administrator with Broward Schools for over 7 years. She received a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education and a Master of Education in Special Education from the University of Florida. She then went on to earn a doctoral degree in Educational Leadership from Nova Southeastern University.

When not at school, Dr. Leydig enjoys spending time with her husband, her three children and their family dog. She is a huge Florida Gators fan and loves Disney, fishing, and dancing.

Dr. Leydig truly believes in the power of education and welcomes all community stakeholders to join her in making this an amazing year at Weddington Elementary School!
