Emily Kraftson (Principal)
About Mrs. Kraftson

Mrs. Kraftson is thrilled to serve the Weddington Elementary community as Principal for a third year after previously serving as the Principal at Sandy Ridge Elementary for three school years. While at Weddington from 2011-2017, Mrs. Kraftson served as the School Counselor, then Assistant Principal. Mrs. Kraftson currently resides in Stallings, NC with her husband, Jeff, and her two daughters who both attend school in UCPS.

After growing up in Long Island, NY, Mrs. Kraftson attended Wheaton College where she received a degree in Psychology. Mrs. Kraftson began her educational career as a substitute teacher and math interventionist. These experiences led to Mrs. Kraftson’s desire to combine her psychology background with her teaching experience. Mrs. Kraftson then pursued and received a Master's degree in School Counseling and began her position as a School Counselor in 2011. After several years of enjoying her role as a School Counselor, Mrs. Kraftson decided to further her educational journey by pursuing an add-on license in administration and taking on the role of Assistant Principal.

When she’s not at Weddington, Mrs. Kraftson enjoys spending time with family and friends, traveling, hiking, and spending time outdoors enjoying nature. Mrs. Kraftson is also committed to life-long learning and is continuing her doctoral work at UNCC. When asked about her experience at Weddington, Mrs. Kraftson said, “Weddington continues to be a school that is characterized by a positive atmosphere, strong relationships, and academic excellence. The 2022-2023 school year will be a success as we partner together to support each student, staff, and family member in our school community! Go WILDCATS!”

Banks Spicer (Assistant Principal)
About Mrs. Spicer

Mrs. Spicer was born and raised in Raleigh, North Carolina. She graduated from The University of North Carolina at Wilmington where she earned a Bachelors' Degree in Elementary Education. Upon graduation, Mrs. Spicer taught fourth grade for three years before moving to Savannah, Georgia. She continued to teach fourth grade for three years before being accepted into UNC-Chapel Hill’s Master in School Administration program.

In the fall of 2017, Mrs. Spicer joined the Weddington Elementary Family as a Principal Intern. In the fall of 2018, Mrs. Spicer officially joined the Weddington Family as the Assistant Principal. Her favorite thing about Weddington is the sense of community and family. Weddington is an incredible place to be and Mrs. Spicer is honored to be part of this wonderful community.

Mrs. Spicer resides in Charlotte, with her husband Jared. They enjoy spending time with their family and friends. In her spare time, Mrs. Spicer loves to travel, try new restaurants in the Charlotte area and watch football!
