Dear Sardis Elementary School Families:
Thank you for taking the time to review information about Sardis Elementary School (SDES). At Sardis, we strongly believe that each child can and will fulfill his or her potential. Therefore, we are committed to creating a safe, academically challenging, and positive learning environment that will prepare students for a successful future in a global society. Our school vision is that we all Lead With Purpose. Sardis is proud to share that students in grades 3-5 have Exceeded Growth on NC state exams for the third year in a row (2021-2022, 2022-2023, and 2023-2024). This is a huge accomplishment and just one reason why Sardis is such an amazing school with effective teachers.
At our school, we provide regular updates to you about your child’s academic progress by sending home interim progress reports and/or report cards. Once a year, the state provides families with updates on each school’s achievements through the North Carolina School Report Card. This Report Card typically includes information about school and student performance, class sizes, attendance, school safety, instructional resources, and teacher quality. Additionally, there is information about how our school measured against Federal and State Proficiency, CCR (Career and College Readiness) and the disciplinary data for our school. Report data is available for our school district and for the state’s education system as a whole.
This year, we have a few key areas that we will focus on improving. Staff will intentionally collaborate to achieve collective teacher efficacy through professional learning communities to deliver highly effective Tier 1 instruction. Teachers will incorporate UCPS Portrait of a Graduate skills (collaborators, contributors, problem-solvers, leaders, and communicators) into the planning process so that students are provided with opportunities to prepare them for their futures after graduation. The staff is committed to investigating and implementing quality instructional practices that boost student achievement, foster meaningful student engagement, and nurture a love for learning. At Sardis, we are proud of the warm, caring culture that is evident everywhere.
Sardis’ instructional program includes a comprehensive balanced literacy program, which supports our students in all areas of literacy. In addition, we currently use research-based resources and strategies to provide students with the foundational skills that support long-term mathematical success. We are pleased to have the on-site support of an Instruction & Curriculum Coach, Curriculum Facilitator, instructional support staff, Instructional Assistants and tutors, all of whom support our teachers in using high-quality instructional strategies to ensure students’ success.
At Sardis, parent involvement is very important to the success of our school! We encourage parents and community members to be involved and support our students as they continue to grow and learn. We will provide curricular resources and parent education opportunities to help our parents understand how to best support learning at home. We seek to have partnerships with our families. Additionally, it is vital that parents ensure their children arrive at school on time, prepared and ready to learn. Our children can achieve or exceed grade-level mastery with the full support and encouragement of a positive home and school relationship.
Our school’s full Report Card can be found on the NC School Report Cards’ website, click here: NC Report Card. Our school district’s report is also available on the Report Card website. School Report Cards are provided for regular public schools, charter schools and alternative schools. I encourage you to review our Report Card carefully; then, feel free to call the school with any questions or concerns you may have. I welcome your feedback and the opportunity to work with you to continue to make Sardis Elementary a high-performing Title 1 School.
Thank you for supporting our efforts to provide your child with a high-quality education.
Sincerely,
Kelly Frycz, Principal
