For over three decades, John H. Crowder dedicated his life to supporting the youth of Union County. In honor of his enduring contributions and lasting impact, the Union County Board of Education presented the John H. Crowder Service Award for March to a Monroe High School senior. 

Ian Boeving displays stellar community stewardship and service through his involvement in various school, community and outreach programs, all while effectively managing his time between academics and other extracurricular activities. He has held various cadet leadership positions all leading up to his current position as Cadet Commander, NC-931 Air Force Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps. As a result, his leadership has led to four consecutive Distinguished Unit Awards and, most recently, the coveted Distinguished Unit Award with Merit this past fall. 

He has earned the Outstanding Flight Award and the Outstanding Cadet of the Year three times. Ian will be presented the highly respected and coveted Distinguished Air Force Junior Reserve Officer Cadet Badge as a result of earning the Leadership Ribbon, Superior Performance Ribbon, Achievement Ribbon, Academic Ribbon, Leadership Development Requirement Ribbon and Service Ribbon.

Ian has accumulated more than 150 hours of community service with various organizations, which include The Heart for Monroe’s Closet, Community Blood Center OneBlood, Monroe Middle School Ambassadors and the Union County Education Foundation. 

Ian plans to attend Georgia Military College, where he will participate in a two-year program to prepare him to become a Second Lieutenant in the United States Army.
