    Planning List for 9th graders

    1. Create a four year high school plan that will prepare your students for their college or career choice. Go ahead and set up a CFNC account and begin exploring college options!

    2. Ask your student to complete Bridges Career Program on CFNC.org and begin thinking about possible careers.

    3. Suggest extracurricular activities and ask your student to take part in a sport, school club, music or drama group, or community volunteer experience. Remember colleges love to see "real involvement" in many activities.

    4. Meet with your school counselor to discuss post high school plans and opportunities on campus.

    5. Maintain strong grades in all subjects. Remember, all final grades are reported to colleges and are computed in the GPA.

    6. Emphasize the importance of making wise decisions throughout high school! Good behavior, excellent grades, and extracurricular activities are all part of the college admissions criteria!

    Freshman Parent Survival Guide

      • Students should set aside at least twenty to thirty minutes in the evening for study for each academic course. Even if there are no specific assignments, students should at the very least review the material covered that day.
      • Students should try to study at the same time and in the same location each evening.
      • Study time distractions should be kept to a minimum.
      • Students should enter all assignments in the agenda book. Teachers will be glad to initial assignments.
      • Parents should feel free to e-mail teachers anytime there is a question about performance or behavior. E-mail is one of the best ways to keep track of student performance.
      • Take advantage of Piedmont High’s tutoring program available under Academics on the Piedmont website.
      • Use a student organizer (may be found at Wal-Mart, Target, etc) to keep notes and papers organized
