Applying to Colleges Using Common App
Use the Common App website to apply to certain colleges. Letters of recommendation and transcripts for Common App must be submitted using Naviance.
Seniors must match Common App to Family Connections in order to send recommendations, transcripts and apply. Watch the video tutorial for directions on how to match your accounts.
Applying to Colleges Using CFNC
You will also need to fill out Residency Determination to prove that you are a resident of North Carolina to be eligible for in-state tuition. Directions for completing the NC Residency Determination process are available here.
After completing the NC Residency Determination, students are ready to begin applying to colleges:
- Student goes to CFNC.org, and click on APPLICATION HUB (students may also go directly to a college website for applications).
- Student's NC Residency number (RDS) will automatically prefill on CFNC applications. However, students will need to enter RDS number when asked on other applications.
Transcripts
Students applying to colleges will need to request transcripts through Naviance or CFNC. Directions for sending transcripts is available on the "Transcripts" webpage. Contact Mrs. Ellis or any counselor with questions about transcripts.
Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)
The FAFSA application portal opened on October 1st! Most students who apply will be eligible to receive federal loans, scholarships, grants and be eligible to participate in work-study programs to help families pay for the cost of college. If you are applying to a four-year college or a two-year community college you must fill this form out! ANYONE (no really, anyone) can fill out the FAFSA for FREE. You will need to sit down with your parents or legal guardians and work together to complete this form as it will require tax information. The FAFSA portal opens on October 1st so start filling it out as soon as possible.
View the "FAFSA Cheat Sheet" that will assist students and parents when completing the FAFSA.
As an incentive, seniors who bring a copy/photo of their completion confirmation page will be entered into a prize drawing to be held on November 1st. Bring documentation to Mrs. Ellis in the Counseling Office.
