Attendance is crucial for student success. School Attendance rules are detailed in the UCPS and PRHS Student Handbooks linked below. (The electronic PRHS Absence Reporting Form is linked at the bottom of this page, along with guidelines.)
- UCPS Student Handbook: Review policies surrounding attendance, including excused and unexcused absences, course failure due to excessive absences, attendance recovery, tardies, and exam exemptions.
- Student Attendance: Is expected and is necessary for students to make the most of their learning. If a student misses 8 or more days of school in a semester, whether the absences are excused or unexcused, the student can fail the course due to attendance. Please work with us as we try to teach our students that attendance is required, just as it would be at a job in their future.
- Absence notes are now submitted online - scroll down for link and information about form.
- Per BOE attendance policy the school may require doctor/medical notes after 5 days of absences (whether those five days are separate days or continuous days). PRHS will require a doctor/medical note after 5 days of absence. If that is not received, the absence will remain as unexcused. Parent notes are ONLY accepted for the first five days that a student is absent (this is five days, whether consecutive or spread out).
- All notes should be submitted within FIVE school days after the end of an absence to document the reason for the absence. An absence will be recorded as unexcused until the note is submitted. It is important to submit notes quickly so that teachers know whether the absence is excused or unexcused.
- All parent notes are subject to review and may result in a required parent-administration meeting in order to be considered. All doctor/medical notes are subject to verification with the doctor/medical office.
- PRHS Student Handbook - see this resource to review PRHS procedures surrounding absence notes, make-up work, class attendance, tardies, educational opportunity requests, and attendance recovery.
- Educational Opportunity Application - this request must be submitted at least TEN days in advance of the start of the opportunity to be approved. If it is received after this time, it will be denied.
- Exam Exemption Policy applies to teacher-made final exams only and criteria are very straight-forward: High School students will not be required to take a teacher-made final exam in a course in the following situation:
- The student has an average of 90 or above the week prior to the administration of the exam
- Teachers will notify students of their likely exam exemption status at least four days prior to the first exam date. The exam exemption status can change up to the first day of exams based on grades.
Students' Counselors are excellent resources for parents and students in regards to attendance concerns, however, you may contact the main office for routine attendance questions.
UCPS Absence Reporting Form is linked here. You must set up an account in order to report absences this year. There is a way to upload medical/court documents in this form as well. ONLY parents are permitted to set up an absence reporting account and the email used MUST match the parent email on record with the school, or the account will be deleted along with any absences reported. Please be sure that you are using the email account that we send the Pirate Press to each week. Guidelines for reporting absences with the PRHS Attendance Reporting Form are listed below, and are also available within the form.
This form is to be used by a PARENT/GUARDIAN to report a STUDENT'S PREVIOUS DAY OR CURRENT DAY'S absence from school due to illness.Absence Reporting Guide in Spanish
-
A maximum number of FIVE (5) days can be excused FOR ILLNESS with a parent note (uploads to this form) each semester, for an approved 'excused absence reason. (This includes paper/email notes that were sent in prior to this form being available.) A request for an exception to this guideline should be directed to your child's administrator or counselor for Principal approval.
-
Official Medical/Court/Legal Absence notes should be uploaded to the form when it is submitted.
-
THIS IS NOT TO BE USED FOR AN EARLY DISMISSAL.
-
THIS IS NOT TO BE USED FOR FUTURE ABSENCES

Only the parent or guardian may complete this form, no students. Parent email completing form will be verified with email(s) we have on file, only forms submitted by a matching email will be accepted. IF you need to verify your email that we have on file - it is the email address that we send the weekly Pirate Press newsletter to. You can verify other addresses by calling the school.
-
*Email and paper Parent Notes for illness will no longer be accepted*
-
Students arriving to school late, or returning to school from a medical/court/legal appointment should continue to sign in to school and turn in their doctor/court/official note to the front desk. The office staff will hand enter those notes. No parent notes will be accepted in this way, however.
-
The parent note (upload to this form) should be completed the day the child is absent or within five days of the absence. The final deadline is within the 6 week grading period in which the absence occurred. The five days is strongly encouraged because it allows our teachers to set makeup work guidelines based on whether the absence was excused or unexcused.
-
Any parent note and/or medical/court/legal note is subject to verification by appropriate school personnel.
-
Reasons for legally excused absences can be found in the UCPS High School Student Handbook found on both the UCPS and PRHS websites.
