• SCHOLARSHIPS & FINANCIAL AID

It is never too early in your high school career to search for scholarships to fund your college education.  Scholarships are more available than many expect!  Where to begin?  Ms. Parks can help and has a limited number of available office hours T/Th/F to discuss how to begin your scholarship quest.  Book an appointment through SCOIR today!

Important: Please note that scholarship deadlines, applications, and nomination processes vary.  Finding scholarships is a student and family led process, but Mrs. Parks can guide you through the process.  Please follow all directions set forth by each individual college/corporation/organization.

The Fall & Spring "Deadline" Lists below are great resources containing past scholarships Mavericks have applied for and earned.  Ms. Parks updates it regularly with Maverick-relevant scholarships from trusted organizations.   This is a small sampling of scholarships available in the world, but a great place to start!

REPORTING YOUR SCHOLARSHIPS TO YOUR COUNSELOR

Received a scholarship?  TELL US!  Report every scholarship you earn (regardless if you plan to accept!) In order to be included in the graduation program!  Class of 2021 Report ALL earned Scholarships HERE

    NOMINATIONS

If you are interested in a scholarship that requires a counselor or school nomination, please complete this application: NOMINATION APPLICATION.  You may also email our Scholarship Coordinator, Ms. Parks, if you have further questions.  The scholarship committee meets throughout the year to award nominations to relevant scholarships such as UNC Morehead Cain, NC State Park, Jefferson at UVA, and many more.

    FAFSA

Fill out your FAFSA!  The FAFSA is the key that unlocks many merit and all needs-based scholarships.  Filling out the FAFSA is amongst the first tasks seniors and families should tackle Fall during Fall of senior year.  The 2020–21 Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA®) is available to complete through the myStudentAid mobile app or the FAFSA.GOV website.  Many organizations require FAFSA to be considered.  Ms. Beste is our resident FAFSA guru and gives prizes for students who complete the FAFSA!

Don't know what the FAFSA is?  That's OK!  Marvin Ridge Counseling Department hosts a FAFSA & Financial Aid Presentation annually.  Not to worry if you missed it!  You may watch the virtual meeting recording, or read the PowerPoint slides at any time.

    Watch the recording here.

    COLLEGE & UNIVERSITY SCHOLARSHIPS

As you apply to colleges, please be sure to check the college/university website for a listing of scholarships and deadlines. You will also want to research deadlines for applications, FAFSA information, and check to see if they require the CSS/Financial Aid Profile. Do not be intimated by the high costs of private colleges. They usually offer more scholarship money that helps offset the cost!  Many of these scholarships are given automatically and some require application.  Going to the Financial Aid page for each college you apply to is very helpful to understand the endowment available for incoming freshmen.

    CORPORATE SCHOLARSHIPS

Many corporations give scholarships!  What are your interests? Hobbies? Volunteer experiences?  Internships? Employment?  You would be surprised at how many businesses want to support our students in furthering their education!  A simple google search will take you far.  Google your favorite brand or company and "Scholarship" and you will be amazed at what you will find.  For example: Coca Cola, Foot Locker, Dell Computer, and more!  Corporations often offer relevant scholarships with large dollar amounts.

    COMMUNITY SCHOLARSHIPS

At the end of every year, Marvin Ridge honors our students at Awards Day.  Awards are given by local community organizations, charities, PTSO, and Marvin Ridge itself!  These include scholarship dollars!  See the SPRING Scholarship listings for more details on our community scholarships.  Examples: The Bill Cook "Always a Maverick" Scholarship, PTSO Scholarship, Jeff Aten Memorial Scholarship, Isabella Santos Foundation Scholarship, Girls on the Run Alumni Scholarship, Charlotte Knights, SECU, Piedmont Eye Care, Union County Power Cooperative, and more!
