Porter Ridge is excited to offer many extracurricular clubs for students to join. Clubs meet either before or after school and take part in activities like the Blood Drive, raising money for charities, taking field trips and many other events. Click on the link in the menu at the left of the page for the club to find out information about the club. Students interested in starting a club should complete the new club application or see Dr. Wall in the front office for the form.

Battle of the Books
The PRHS Battle of the Books team is a team of avid and fun loving readers! We compete once a year at the UCPS competition in the spring answering questions about all of the books on the list. Anyone at PRHS is welcome to join and we will meet 1-2 times a month in the Media Center to review the books, play games and practice for the quiz bowl competition. Beta Club
Beta Club is an academic honors club dedicated to service. The mission of National Senior Beta Club is to promote the ideals of academic achievement, character, service and leadership among secondary school students. The PRHS club is for 10th-12th grade students. We complete one service project each semester and members are required to complete a total of 20 service hours for the school year (10 hours must be completed each semester), an additional 10 hours over the summer, as well as maintain the minimum required unweighted GPA of 3.5 and attend club meetings.
Membership – sophomores and juniors who have earned the required unweighted GPA of 3.5 will receive an invitation to apply to the PRHS chapter at the beginning of the school year. Students will then need to complete the Student Application process, including the completion of the application form and two teacher recommendations from core subject areas (English, History, Science, and Math). Accepted students will need to pay a membership fee of $25.

Book Club
The Book Club is open to anyone who enjoys reading! Meetings are held once a month on Wednesday from 3:05-4 p.m. in classroom E107. See the flyers on the club bulletin board in F Hall and by the Media Center door for specific book titles and dates.

Disc Golf Club
- Club Mission: Spread the game of disc golf by uniting players of all skill levels and developing their abilities and interest in the game.
- We have club meetings every other Tuesday at 7:45 a.m. in Mr. Saffles' room.
- We meet on Saturday afternoons at 1:00 p.m. to play rounds at various courses around the community.

FBLA
FBLA stands for Future Business Leaders of America. Membership is open to any student enrolled in a business education course. This includes Computer Applications classes.We will meet on the 3rd Wednesday of the month in Room F100 @ 7:30am & 3:10pm to discuss upcoming business events or happenings within the club. Participation is the key to a successful club, and attendance is required.

FCCLA
FCCLA is the Family, Career and Community Leaders of America. To join a student must be in or have taken a Family & Consumer Sciences class. FCCLA strives to make a difference in topics such as career, family and community. Skills learned are character development, creative and critical thinking, interpersonal communication and career preparation. The club meets once a month in room F205B and does volunteer work on weekends.

FFA
FFA is a national leadership organization for students interested in agriculture. FFA makes a positive difference in the lives of students by developing their potential for premier leadership, personal growth and career success through agricultural education. Students should be taking or planning to take an Agriculture class and pay yearly dues of $15.

GSA
The Porter Ridge High School Gender and Sexuality Awareness Club was founded in 2006 on the principles of promoting equality for all. We are an all-inclusive organization focused on providing a safe space for LGBTQ students and their allies.
The club meets bi-weekly from September through May. The club enjoys the support of faculty member, Ms. Marissa Jessup. Club meetings consist of group discussions and activities around preventing bullying, being supportive, and building community in and out of the club at PRHS.

Health Occupations Students of America. Any CTE (Career, Technical Ed) student involved in Health Occupations classes with a desire to belong to a professional student organization may join.

Humanities Club
Aims to bring together different people, cultures, ethnic groups, genders, sexualities, and religions. We will strive for a safe environment in which one can express oneself freely and everyone can discuss their background without exclusion. Everyone will get the chance to speak about an issue their culture faces which allows for a better representation of their group and could help eliminate stereotypes.
The club meets the first Wednesday of the month from 3:10-4:00 p.m. in G106.

Interact
Interact is a Rotary-sponsored service club for young people ages 14-18. The program gives young people an opportunity to participate in fun, meaningful service projects while developing leadership skills and meeting new friends.
Interact members pay $15 club dues. Dues help to support supplies needed throughout the year, bus expenses, blood drive expenses, expenses for our Holiday Pre-K program, and special Olympic expenses.
The club meets the second Thursday of each month from 7:40-8:00 a.m. in the auditorium.

Mu Alpha Theta
Mu Alpha Theta is the National High School and Two-Year College Mathematics Honor Society. Students must have completed Math 1, 2 and 3 and have maintained a 3.0 unweighted average in these classes.We meet on the first Tuesday of each month from 7:45 a.m.-8:00 a.m. in E210.

NAHS (National Art Honor Society)
The National Art Honor Society (NAHS) participates in Art related service activities in the school, as well as in the community. Students are required to maintain a 3.0 GPA and an A in all Art classes. Students have to be enrolled in or have taken Art I in order to be eligible for the club.
Our club participates in activities together throughout the school year. In previous years we have had Edible Art Night, Informal Inductions "Great Race Style," Painting Pumpkins for teachers, Fall Fest, Face Painting at various events, Holiday Parties and a Bob Ross Painting Party. We try to add new events every year!
Members must re-apply each year for this honors club in order to check their GPA requirement and to check their attendance for the club meetings and events from the previous year.
Meetings are held in G201 every other Monday. Officers meet every Monday. Please see Mrs. Crowley with any questions!
Membership is $20 for all members.

NEHS (National English Honor Society/Creative Writing Club)
National English Honor Society/Creative Writing Club strives to serve the literary needs of its community. Interested students must have a 3.5 weighted GPA in their English courses, and must be at least a junior to join. Applications are available in G112 during the beginning of the fall semester.
The club meets Mondays after school from 3:15-4:00 p.m.

NHS (National Honor Society)
Membership Requirements: Must earn and maintain a 4.0 weighted GPA. Must have no ISS or OSS referrals, must earn 15 hours of community service during each year of membership. 20 hours of community service needs to be completed in the summer prior to application and between Junior and Senior year. Must demonstrate leadership in the school and/or community, must have teacher character reference prior to induction. Must participate in chapter meetings (can miss no more than 2 per school year) and chapter activities (fundraisers, etc).

Rho Kappa
Rho Kappa Social Studies Honor Society is the only national organization for high school juniors and seniors that recognizes excellence in the field of Social Studies. Members will have monthly meetings, participate in community projects, and listen to guest speakers from outside of Porter Ridge High School. Students must have an overall cumulative high school unweighted 3.5 GPA and 4 semesters of Social Studies.

Ridge Rowdies
This club is comprised of spirited and enthusiastic student representatives (from all grade levels) who work closely with the Student Council Leadership class to plan, organize, set up, execute, and clean up campus events. We meet once a month before school to discuss upcoming events for school.

Robotics Club
Porter Ridge Robotics Club, competes twice a year in Union County. Each year a game is presented to the students and they have to design, build, and program robots to complete the assigned tasks, while also competing with and against other students within the district. PRHS Robotics has a strong legacy of success in the competition and look to continue to build upon that each year. Students also learn teamwork and problem solving while working with their peers from both PR and UCPS. The club meets weekly most of the year.

Science National Honor Society
The purpose of this organization shall be to encourage participation in and recognition of scientific and intellectual thought. It is to advance the students’ knowledge of classical and modern science, to communicate with the scientific community, and to aid the civic community with its comprehension of science. It is to encourage students to participate in community service and, in turn, encourage a dedication to the pursuit of scientific knowledge that benefits all mankind.
Membership Requirements
- 3.0 overall, 3.5 in science classes (~B or higher)
- Take at least 1 HN/AP science class each year
- Be present and active in meetings
- Stay in good behavioral standing at school
The club meets the first Monday of the month alternating morning (7:50 a.m.) and afternoon (3:10 p.m.) in E207D.

Sewing and Upcycling Club
The Sewing and Upcycling Club meets on the last Thursday of the month in room F205B from 3:05-4:15 p.m. Members will learn how to use a sewing machine as well as alter or repair clothing. Members range from advanced to beginners and will get to take old or used clothing and turn it into something new!
