2018 Gordon Hay Scholarship is for seniors who plan to pursue an undergraduate degree in a non-performance discipline of the performing arts. Union Power Cooperative is awarding six scholarships to local seniors who plan to attend a 4 year accredited North Carolina University or Community College. The North Carolina American Water Works Association has several scholarship opportunities available for seniors who plan to pursue a degree in construction, environmental sciences, environmental education, environmental finance, environmental management, and public health. Union County Education Foundation Scholarship--Each spring we award twelve $1,000 college scholarships to UCPS seniors who pay tribute to a special teacher as part of their application process. Deadline: Feb 23 at midnight. Click here for more information.
Agnes Liles Scholarship--Every four years the Union County Education Foundation awards the Agnes Liles Scholarship as a service to Larry Harrington's Law Office. Ms. Liles established a trust that provides six UCPS students a $30,000 college scholarship. ($7,500 per year for four years.) Deadline: March 2 at midnight. Click here for more information.
Quest Bridge Scholars Program
This program targets students whose families earn less than $65,000 per year (family of four), the student has primarily A's in the most challenging courses and are high school Juniors. This program competition offers full scholarship to elite colleges across the nation. For more information check their website at www.questbridge.org.
SECU Foundation "People Helping People"
There are new guidelines for this scholarship competition. No longer will there be an automatic scholarship awarded from each high school. An UCPS scholarship committee, not Parkwood High School, will make the final selection for all high schools. To be considered for this scholarship you must be a Senior who plans to attend one of the 16 constituent campuses of the University of North Carolina system. The student is required to be a member of SECU or the child of a parent/guardian who is a member of SECU. Preference will be given to students whose family members are public sector employees. Students should demonstrate leadership, excellence of character, integrity, and community involvement. Such students should also demonstrate financial need through the submission of a FAFSA (you must have completed your FAFSA!). All students should print off and bring Ms. Rape an updated resume of high school activities, leadership, and service by February 26th to be considered.
Waxhaw Women's Club
Under the Program, one (1) $2500 scholarship will be awarded to a young woman from the senior class of a Union County, NC public high school. ● Applicants should be a young woman from the senior class of a Union County, NC public school. ● Applicants must use the official application form found on the Waxhaw Woman's Club website at http://www.waxhawwomansclub.org ● Applicants must plan to attend a two (2)-year community college or four (4)-year college or university. ● Applicants must have the endorsement of their Guidance Counselor on their application certifying the applicant's GPA and attesting they are qualified for this scholarship program. "I'm First" ScholarshipThis is open to any first generation high school senior who is planning to enroll in a four-year degree program at a Center for Student Opportunity partner school. The amount is $4,000 that is dispersed in annual $1,000 increments over four years, provided that the recipient maintains full-time enrollment and passing grades. South Piedmont Community College students have access to a wide range of endowed and local scholarships. Both endowed and local scholarships are awarded on the basis of financial need, academic performance and other criteria as directed by the donors. Union County Antique Tractor & Power Club Scholarship
The applicant must be a graduating senior who is planning a career in Agriculture or an Agricultural related field.
Applicants must submit: ● One letter of recommendation from a school official, and may be the following: 1) Principal, 2) Teacher or 3) Guidance Counselor. ● Two letters of recommendation (other than a relative or school official). ● Certified copy of current transcript from your High School. ● An essay containing a minimum of 100 and a maximum of 200 words describing your ambitions and goals and what you hope to contribute to society through your educational training.

Master Gardener Scholarship The application is also available in Naviance and Canvas.

The applicant must be: ● a resident of Union County. ● a graduating senior attending a Union County School ● in good standing with at least 3.0 GPA ● planning to attend a college or university and be majoring in botany, environmental studies, forestry, landscape architecture, horticulture, crop sciences, local foods, animal husbandry or related fields.
This award will be based on academic standing, student personal statement and one teacher/ counselor recommendation.

UCPAPA Administrative Scholarship- awarded to a student each year who is the child of an administrator within UCPS and is a UCPS senior. See Ms. Rape for details application due March 2.
UCPAPA Education Scholarship- awarded to a student each year who intends to enroll in a teacher preparation program at a four-year insuitution and is a UCPS senior. Applications can be found in guidance. Deadline is March 2 to Ms. Rape.
King's College- Scholarship Day will be held on Jan. 20 at King's College who plan to attend King's. Students should arrive at 10:00 am. No pre-registration is needed. During this time students can meet staff, tour the campus, participate in a financial aid seminar and speak specifically with King's College representatives about enrollment.
PSAT Results will be given out to students on Friday, Jan. 12. Students in 10th and 11th grade students who took the test on October 11th will receive their test score report and their actual test booklet for item analysis. Students can use their unique access codes to get their full reports online at studentscores.collegeboard.org. Access codes are printed on the front cover of the student score report in blue. On the inside right cover, students can view their strengths and weaknesses. Once identified, students can utilize Khan Academy (satpractice.org) for free to improve those skills identified. National Merit that is presented at the top center of the report is a scholarship competition for 11th grade students. If you are in 11th grade, you can see if you qualified for this specific program as well. National Merit information can be found at www.nationalmerit.org. On the backside of the score report, students can see their question and answer feedback for test analysis. Students can also see questions, and the answer explanatins online at studentscores.collegeboard.org as well. Union County Farm Bureau Scholarships (posted 11/28/17)
Flake Shaw- $4,000 per year, only 6 scholarships awarded per year across the state, preference given to Farm Bureau members. Students must demonstrate a financial aid, satisfactory grades, evidence of understanding of the arg and/or agribusiness community, leadership potential, and an intention to pursue a career in agriculture or in an agriculturally-related field. Applciations are due March 5, 2018. Applications can be found in guidance. Completed applications must be returned according to the address listed on application. N.B. Nicholson- Students are selected by a scholarship committee from Farm Bureau for this $1,000 scholarship. It will be directly awarded to the college student attends, after their first semester in college. The R. Flake Shaw scholarship applciation should be completed and returned to address listed on the application by March 5, 2018.
NC Farm Bureau IFAL Program- This program is for students who want to attend the Institute for Future Agricultural Leaders (IFAL) either at NC State or NC A&T. The deadline for students to return application to their local Farm Bureau office is March 30, 2018.

Cooperative Youth Tour- HIGH SCHOOL JUNIORS!

THREE high school juniors have the opportunity to travel to Washington, D.C. in June, representing Union Power and the state of North Carolina during this once-in-a-lifetime experience!
The Electric Cooperative Youth Tour is an annual event coordinated by the National Rural Electric Cooperative Association (NRECA) and the North Carolina Association of Electric Cooperatives (NCAEC). “Tourists” are sponsored by local cooperatives. These students learn about the electric cooperative business model, American history, and U.S. government.
