Rev. Jimmy Bention, Sr. appointed to Board of Education

The Union County Board of Education welcomed a new member at the Aug. 4 meeting.

At the recommendation of the Union County Republican Party Executive Committee, Rev. Jimmy H. Bention, Sr., was appointed by the Board of Education to fill a vacant At-Large seat.

Bention was sworn in by Judge Jeff Carpenter and will serve the remainder of the term until 2022.

This is the second time Bention has served on the Board of Education. In June 2014, Bention was appointed as the District 1 representative and served until December 2014, when the term expired.

Bention is an ordained Elder in the Church of God in Christ (COGIC). He is the pastor of the Metrolina Christian Center in Monroe, NC and Temple Church of God in Christ in Rockingham, NC.
