At the Dec. 7 meeting, the Union County Board of Education passed a joint resolution in support of ending contact tracing and quarantine requirements for students in North Carolina. The Board of Education joined the Union County Board of Commissioners (BOCC) in this effort, as the BOCC approved the resolution in a unanimous vote at its Dec. 6 meeting.

The resolution states that Union County and Union County Public Schools are committed to protecting the health of all students and staff in the Union County Public School system and to maintaining consistently high standards of student learning and social development.

It also mentions, in part, that the Union County Board of Commissioners and Union County Board of Education resolutely call upon the State of North Carolina and the Department of Health and Human Services to take whatever actions are necessary to end the practice of contact tracing and quarantining of students on or before January 19, 2022.

Students who are currently in quarantine or isolation due to COVID-19 should remain in quarantine/isolation, and continue to follow instructions provided by their school.
