For over three decades, John H. Crowder dedicated his life to supporting the youth of Union County. In honor of his enduring contributions and lasting impact, the Union County Board of Education presented the John H. Crowder Service Award for May to a Piedmont High senior. 

Kaleb Bigham has dedicated many hours to serving his school and community. His desire to give back is genuine, and he actively seeks to influence those around him for the greater good.

Kaleb has volunteered for several organizations in our area, such as Heart for Monroe, the Union County Christmas Bureau, the Lions Club, and Operation Christmas Child. However, Kaleb believes his most significant contributions have come from his involvement in Piedmont's Student Government. As Student Government president, Kaleb helped organize the first Piedmont Car Show, which raised money for Victory Junction, which provides an opportunity for kids with disabilities or illnesses to enjoy a week in camp. He participated in "One Day, One Panther," where the school collaborated to organize a food and coat drive and also put together gift bags for first responders and local veterans in the community.

For the past two years, Kaleb has volunteered with Special Olympics and the Special Needs Prom as a member of Unified Champion Schools. He loves helping at these events and seeing the excitement and joy on the faces of the students as they cross the finish line at a race or get to dress up and dance at their prom. 

Kaleb is a student-athlete who participates in track, cross country, swim and tennis. He has been a youth soccer coach at Hopewell Baptist Church for a year. He helps young athletes learn soccer skills and shares his lessons learned as an athlete. Kaleb is an inspiring young man who prioritizes community engagement, helps those in need, and strives to positively impact others.

Kaleb plans to attend Virginia Tech and major in engineering.
