Danielle Powell (Union Elementary)

What do you teach and why did you become a teacher?

This is my fourth year teaching and I teach the fourth grade! I became a teacher because education changed my life. Education has made my life so much better and I want my students to have that same experience!

How do you show your school spirit?

I participate in all school spirit week activities! We just had a day to “dress up as your favorite book character” and I dressed up as Mrs. Frizzle!

What or who inspires you?

I am inspired by my husband! He is the definition of a hard worker and is so kind and helpful to everyone. He makes me want to be a better person.

In which other teacher’s class would you like to enroll for a day? Why?

I would love to enroll in any kindergarten classroom for a day! I would like to see the differences between younger and older students. It would be interesting to look at how classroom management techniques differ between the grades.

What is one of your hidden talents?

Noticing when people are upset, and helping them feel better!

If you could pass on any wisdom to your students, what would you share?

Be the person to help someone out and be there for them. Always be the person helping others up, not putting them down.

What is a professional motto or quote that you “work” by?

Build relationships with each child, and work hard each day to let them know that you care.

What do you enjoy most about working in UCPS?

I like how friendly and family-oriented it is. When I come to work each day, I know that my coworkers genuinely care when they ask how I am.

If you had a superpower, what would it be?

I would want to have the power of teleportation so I could go anywhere I want!
