Troy Harris (Parkwood High)

What do you teach and why did you become a teacher?

I am a school counselor. I decided to take the path of being a school counselor after my personal experience during high school. I did not feel that the “guidance counselors” at that time reached beyond their door to help students with post-secondary education decisions. I hope that I am making a positive impact in the life of the students that I come into contact with on a daily basis.

How do you show your school spirit?

I attend the majority of the school athletic events, even the ones that I have very little knowledge about, and I wear school gear on- and off-campus.

What or who inspires you?

One of the things that inspires me the most is when I see a student making a positive change in their life, whether the change is academic, social or emotional.

In which other teacher’s class would you like to enroll for a day? Why?

A physical education class. I can relive my coaching today and push the students to be the best they can be, or an ROTC instructor, where I can share my personal experience with being in the United States Air Force.

What is one of your hidden talents?

A little singing.

If you could pass on any wisdom to your students, what would you share?

Your past does not have to determine your future. Keep pressing toward your dreams and goals.

What is a professional motto or quote that you “work” by?

"Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men."

What do you enjoy most about working in UCPS?

My current leadership and the students.

If you had a superpower, what would it be?

Being silent so I can hear the needs of others.
