What are your most and least favorite subjects and why?

This is my first year at a UCPS school. Last year, I didn’t like math that much but I really like my teachers this year and it's become one of my favorite subjects. I like social studies a little more. You get to learn about the world and my teacher does interactive simulations, which are lots of fun. We were recently learning about ancient trade routes. The activity we did let us play characters so we could understand what we were learning more. I love learning about ancient worlds.

I don’t really have a least favorite subject. There are some that I like over others, but none that I dislike. 

If you could travel anywhere, where would it be and why?

For my brother’s high school graduation, our family was supposed to go on a celebratory cruise to Europe. We couldn’t because of COVID so I would like to still travel there. I was disappointed we couldn’t go because I had researched the cruise and knew everything about it. There are a lot of places to see and explore. There is a lot of history there, too. I’d really love to see the Swiss Alps. 

What careers interest you?

I used to want to be a pilot because you get to travel. I’d still like to get my pilot’s license someday, but I’m thinking of it as more of a hobby. I have some old pilot books that I got from my uncle, which inspired me to want to do it.

The career I really want is to be a person that works in an ICU (intensive care unit) because I want to help people. During my flextime here, I researched how to get a CPR certification. That is something I’d like to get in the future. 

What clubs or activities do you participate in? And why? 

I have friends in my neighborhood from my old school that I like to play with outside. We play things like tag. I’ve started playing rugby with a club. I’m still new at it. I like playing video games, especially Roblox. It’s a game where you can create a game, plans and groups within the platform. It reminds me a little bit of Minecraft but it’s different. 

I’m also part of the robotics club at school. I wanted to try some different things and so far it has been really fun. We are close to being finished with the robot. The competition is on Nov. 19 and I’m excited for it.

I’m in the band and play the clarinet, which I’ve been playing for two years. We had a concert last month and it was fun. I’m better than I was and I enjoy playing it and I want to keep doing it at least until I get to eighth grade. 

If you had to choose between spaghetti or pizza, which would you choose?

Both. It’s so hard to pick because it depends how I’m feeling but if I had to choose, I’d go with pizza. I like cheese, pepperoni and ham and pineapple.

What is your happiest school memory?

I have a lot of memories from my old school. Last year we went on a field trip to Charleston. We saw an aircraft carrier on the water, which was cool. I even got to hold a parrot on my arm. We went shopping in the market. I spent a lot of it in the candy shop. 

Here at Marvin, I’ve made a lot of friends and I love the social studies simulations. I liked the lesson on ancient China. We learned about their education system. 

What advice would you give your parents or teachers?

Teaching can be hard, so my advice would be that hard things will pass, so stay strong. I’d tell my parents they are doing a great job.
