UCPS Dual Language/Immersion (DL/I) Program
The kindergarten application period for the Union County Public Schools Dual Language Immersion programs will open February 1 and close March 29.
Students in Fedora Zelkowicz’s third-grade class celebrated Multicultural Children’s Book Day (MCBD) on Thursday, January 25, 2018. These students have been in the Dual Language Immersion program at Poplin Elementary since Kindergarten. To celebrate students read books in Spanish by authors from different countries. Students reading books by authors from Peru, Cuba, Venezuela and more!
NC DPI ESL / Title III Consultant Ivanna Anderson and Dr. Linda Lippitt toured the immersion programs at Shiloh, Sun Valley and Kensington Elementary Schools on Friday December 8, 2017. The purpose of their visit was to familiarize themselves with immersion in UCPS prior to launching DPI's new immersion modules and face-to-face immersion training sessions.
Did the hurricane cover the whole island? Did the waves get all the way to the houses? Did the electrical towers explode? Such were the questions from the Spanish immersion students who spoke in Spanish to three guest speakers about Hurricane Maria.
The Power of Empathy: Lead by the Spanish immersion teachers at Western Union and Shiloh, elementary students raised funds to support hurricane-damaged Puerto Rico.
