When can I register my child for kindergarten?
Kindergarten registration for the 2024-2025 school year officially begins Feb. 1, 2024.

How do I know which school my child should attend?
Please use the Edulog School Assignment Finder to identify which school your child will attend. If you encounter any problems while using Edulog, or are unable to find the school to which your student is assigned, please email edulog@ucps.k12.nc.us.

Are there any eligibility requirements?
Children who will be five years old on or before Aug. 31, 2024 are eligible to be enrolled in kindergarten.

How do I enroll my child in kindergarten?
Kindergarten enrollment is processed through Scribbles, the UCPS online enrollment system. Click on New Kindergarten Enrollment to register your child.

What documents do I need to enroll my child?
- Your child’s birth certificate to verify he or she will be five years old on or before Aug. 31. Birth certificates can be obtained from county officials in the county where your student was born.
- A certified copy of your child’s immunization record that includes a doctor’s signature or a clinic’s stamp as proof the vaccines were given. View a list of immunizations required by law before your student’s first day of school.
- Two documents that provide proof of residence. Please visit the UCPS website for a complete list of approved documents.
- Before the first day of school, you will also need to provide your school with a completed Kindergarten Health Assessment Report. The form must be signed by a doctor and include all of the information requested on the form.

What academic options are available for UCPS kindergarten students?
UCPS elementary schools have many competitive academic offerings that provide a unique and well-rounded educational experience for students, ranging from language immersion programs to STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) initiatives. Additionally, by combining powerful instructional strategies with digital resources, students are challenged to uncover and engage in opportunities that focus on problem-solving, making real-world connections and working collaboratively. Families are encouraged to visit the EmpowerED Family Portal to view resources that are available to students.

When is the kindergarten application period for the UCPS Dual Language Immersion Program?
The kindergarten application period for the UCPS Dual Language Immersion Program is March 11 - April 12. Families of rising kindergarten students are encouraged to visit school websites for information about open houses and immersion parent meetings. Students must register for kindergarten at their home school before submitting an application for the Dual Language Immersion Program.
Applications for the Dual Language Immersion lottery will be available on Scribbles.

How can I learn more about my child’s school?
Schools will hold open houses/tours for families. Visit your school’s website and follow their social media pages for weekly updates.

Is transportation provided to kindergarten students?
Yes, transportation is available for all UCPS students and specific information will be provided to families closer to the beginning of the school year. For additional information about transportation, please contact the school your student will attend.

Does UCPS provide an after-school program for students?
Yes, parents have the option of enrolling their students in an After School Program that is conveniently located at elementary schools.

Where can I find more information about kindergarten curriculum as well as goals and objectives for UCPS kindergarten students?
The UCPS Goals and Objectives handbook for students in kindergarten through second grade outlines the goals and objectives for students. You can also view the UCPS Kindergarten Registration booklet for more information about how to prepare your child for reading, writing and math.

What support services are available for students with disabilities?
Our Exceptional Children’s Program provides special education and related services for eligible children with disabilities and is designed to meet their unique needs and prepare them for further education, employment and independent living.
Once determined eligible by the Individualized Education Program (IEP) team, the students’ needs are addressed through the development of an individualized education program, which may address cognitive, educational, physical, behavioral, communication, motor and adaptive needs of the student.
