UCVirtual Student of the Year 2017 (5/18/2017)
Union County Virtual was honored to award Shane Stout as our inaugural “UCVirtual Student of the Year.” Shane, a graduating Sun Valley High student, was presented with this award at Sun Valley’s Senior Awards Night on May 17, 2017. He was presented a framed certificate and #VirtuallyAwesome t-shirt from Brenda Drye, E-Learning Administrator for Union County Public Schools.
UCVirtual has over 1,000 UCPS students currently enrolled in Spring semester classes. UCPS’s full time UCVirtual teachers were asked to nominate one graduating senior to be recognized as the UCV Student of the Year. In order to be nominated students had to show a commitment to academic achievement, excellence in blended learning and outstanding personal character. Nominations were then narrowed down and voted on by the E-Learning team.
Shane was nominated by his AP Environmental Science teacher, Kathy Glasheen. Ms. Glasheen noted that Shane has taken three course with UCVirtual; Honors Civics and Economics, Advanced Environmental Science Topics, and Advanced Placement Environmental Science. She had several additional reasons for nominating Shane as Student of the Year. When nominating Shane, Ms. Glasheen had this to say about him:
“Shane is a stellar student (ranked 2nd in his class at SVHS) and an awesome young man! He is a great role model for his peers and is simply down-to-earth: genuinely polite, kind, encouraging and friendly. I have witnessed how well liked he is by his classmates and teachers. He was recently named as a Gold Medal winner in Sun Valley's new Advanced Placement Academy of Leadership and Success program (APALS).
Shane has had a great experience with UCVirtual and he has been a pleasure to teach! He consistently creates outstanding work and always stays on top of his assignments, even while taking two other AP courses and participating in sports.”
After the ceremony Brenda Drye remarked that “UCVirtual could not be more pleased to have our first ‘Student of the Year’ be such an outstanding example of what our students are capable of. We look forward to seeing all the great things Shane will do in his future.”
Congratulations to Shane Stout on being the first UCVirtual Student of the Year!
